If a sample is presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at concentrations lower than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluids), making hair drug testing the most complex method to conduct.
The confirmation of any positive outcome from Screening is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation as applicable.
