Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug screenings in Nashville, Indiana. For those in need of a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise is unmatched, with centers available across all U.S. cities to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is necessary. Tests can discern drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options.

Recently, there's been an upsurge in conducting drug tests via hair follicle methods. This approach is being preferred by employers, legal authorities, and Substance Abuse experts over traditional urine tests. Organizations with strict drug policies, legal systems, and probation officers favor these tests for their extended detection capabilities up to 90 days. Though highly accurate and almost fraud-proof, for drug use in the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the strands of developing hair. When retrieved near the scalp, hair can offer up to a roughly 3-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and convenient for shipping.

A recommended sample size of 1.5 inches with approximately 200 hair strands (similar to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is an optimal amount for testing and validation. For EtG, additional tests, or panels exceeding 10, a specimen of 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale is suggested for measuring the specimen. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. Referring to head hair implies specifically scalp hair. Body hair covers all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug testing laboratory process involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning focuses on the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. It involves ensuring the sample’s seal and shipping were correct, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While it serves as a cost-effective method to exclude drug usage for most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for legal acceptance. Presumptive positive samples in Screening indeed require further confirmation.

For a sample with a presumptive positive screening, additional hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other strategies (for instance, urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation for any positive screen result is accomplished through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples deemed presumptively positive are cleaned prior to confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug usage for up to 90 days, contrary to urine tests which have a more limited detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: It's highly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing the reliability of the outcomes.
  • Shows historical patterns: Hair tests can illustrate a trend of drug use over time, not solely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent intake: Detecting drugs in hair takes approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Though often described as "hair follicle tests", the actual analysis is performed on the hair shaft, not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why opt for hair follicle testing in Nashville, IN? The advantages are crystal clear. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis boasts superior detection accuracy and dependability. Hair tests give a broader insight into substance use, unlike urine tests that only capture recent consumption. This evergreen choice ensures organizations uphold stringent drug-free environments with ease and efficacy.

Extended Detection Window

The standout feature of hair follicle testing in Nashville, IN is its extended detection window. By analyzing drug use up to 90 days prior, this method arms employers with an extensive view of an individual’s history. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
