Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle tests in Grantville, Kansas. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol tests, we operate testing centers nationwide, bringing hair testing services to every city. Typically, a sample of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Analyzing hair can test for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific needs.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become a prominent method for screening. They are increasingly favored by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals over conventional urine tests. These tests support zero-tolerance drug policies and are essential for those on probation. Hair tests offer an extended detection window of up to 90 days and are virtually impossible to tamper with. However, for recent drug use detection within 5 days, urine tests remain a top choice.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments are now recognized as potent instruments for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair holds a prolonged history of substances by embedding biomarkers within its developing fibers. Collected near the scalp, hair can potentially offer a detection timeframe of up to around three months for various substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A segment of 1.5 inches containing roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) adjacent to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the preferred sample size for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, expansions, or evaluations exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. In the absence of scalp hair, a corresponding quantity of body hair may be utilized. When mentioning head hair, we specifically refer to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The principal phases in the laboratory progression of drug test outcomes encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary processing of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This consists of confirming the sample's proper sealing and shipment, designating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfilling any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails a preliminary rapid assessment for substance misuse. Although Screening offers an economical method for excluding drug consumption in most samples, a positive outcome necessitates confirmation to be legally admissible. Samples that yield a presumptive positive in Screening require a subsequent confirmation.

Upon a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for Extraction preparation. At this phase, drugs are isolated from hair in notably lower concentrations than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), hence the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation for any affirmative screening result is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples undergo washing prior to necessary confirmations. The comprehensive laboratory sequence—from Accessioning to Confirmation—undergoes scrutiny under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair categorization and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeline: Hair drug assessments identify drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine evaluations with a reduced detection span.
  • Hard to defraud: It is exceedingly challenging to outwit a hair drug examination, enhancing result reliability.
  • Reveals usage history: It uncovers a pattern of substance use over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Recent use undetectable: Substances require approximately 5-7 days to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Typically, hair drug assessments incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variations: Variables like hair color and personal differences in hair growth might impact the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Though often named "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, excluding the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Grantville, KS, hair follicle testing outshines traditional urine tests due to its superior detection capabilities. This method provides a more reliable overview of substance use, detecting a wider range of substances over a longer period. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
