Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Great Bend, Kansas. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is your expert choice, offering specialized hair testing. With facilities across all cities Nationwide, we are equipped to conduct hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Our hair tests can assess for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer tailored hair testing solutions.

In recent developments, the method of drug testing has increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. A growing number of employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are endorsed by organizations with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and for probation monitoring. A key advantage of hair follicle testing is an extended detection period for drug use, up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and nearly infallible. However, detecting recent drug use, within the last five days, remains most precise with urine testing.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended retrospective view of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the structure of the growing hair shaft. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal substance usage over a period up to roughly three months. Collecting hair is relatively straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section containing around 200 hair strands (equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) cut close to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for testing and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a sample weighing 150mg is suggested. We advise weighing the sample on a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair is not obtainable, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be collected. When we mention head hair, it refers exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process in the lab for a drug test outcome includes four core steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into the lab's system. This process ensures the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigns an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further data input that an electronic chain of custody system doesn't cover.

Screening serves as an initial rapid check for substance misuse. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screening result needs verification to be admissible in legal contexts. Any samples that are provisionally positive in Screening must go through a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at a far lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug testing is the most challenging method to perform.

The verification of any positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples that test positive initially are cleansed before confirmation as needed. The whole laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection span: Hair drug tests can reveal substance use over a 90-day period, unlike urine tests which have a shorter span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is notably challenging, resulting in more reliable findings.
  • Offers historical insight: It can depict a substance usage trend over time, beyond just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug testing generally incurs higher costs than other testing methods.
  • Results may vary: Variables such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the test analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Great Bend, KS, hair follicle testing offers formidable advantages over traditional urine testing. A prominent benefit is its remarkable detection accuracy and reliability. Where urine tests might miss long-term consumption patterns, hair tests excel in offering a comprehensive view, spanning a period of up to 90 days. This method stands unmatched in its capacity to unearth a full spectrum of substance use history.

Hair follicle tests are significantly more reliable for detecting prolonged drug use compared to urine tests. While urine tests are confined to short detection windows, hair tests transcend this limitation. Particularly in Great Bend, KS, they serve as a mainstay for institutions seeking granular insights into substance use that urine tests often overlook.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Great Bend, KS benefit from hair follicle tests due to their extended detection windows, aptly capturing drug consumption over a period of up to 90 days. This wide-ranging visibility allows for a thorough examination of an individual's substance use history, making it an invaluable tool for screening prospective employees or monitoring current staff.

Hair follicle testing offers an exceptional period for detecting drug use, unparalleled by traditional methods. This comprehensive vantage point provides greater assurance in employee evaluations and background checks. Organizations in Great Bend, KS are empowered with detailed substance histories, reinforcing their oversight capabilities.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
