Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Hackney, Kansas. For those in need of a hair-based drug or alcohol test, we specialize in such tests, with facilities throughout all cities nationwide that conduct these tests. You need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body, typically. Hair tests detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide other tailored testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methods more often involve hair follicle analysis. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse experts now prefer hair tests over standard urine ones. Hair follicle tests are adopted by workplaces with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probationary individuals. Their key advantage is a longer drug detection window, usually up to 90 days, collected under supervision and resistant to tampering. However, for recent drug use detection within five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged record of alcohol and drug use by capturing biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When taken near the scalp, hair can show a detection period of up to about three months for alcohol and drugs. It's straightforward to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (around the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which serves as the optimal sample for testing and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or analyses over 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We recommend using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent mass of body hair can be taken. When mentioning head hair, it refers exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result primarily involves four steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the initial sample is processed into the lab’s system. This step verifies the sample is sealed and shipped correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry missing from an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for drugs of abuse. Although it economically rules out drug use for most samples, a positive result must be validated for legal acceptability. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require a further confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. Here, drugs are removed from hair at concentrations lower than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), accounting for why hair drug screening is challenging to conduct.

Positive screening results are confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify substance use for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests with a shorter detection range.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is quite challenging to bypass a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: It reveals a pattern of drug consumption over time, not only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent consumption: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Despite being called "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually involves the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over urine testing in Hackney, KS? The answer lies in its superior detection capability and reliability. Hair tests demonstrate remarkable precision in identifying substances over extended periods, making them more trusted in various settings. While urine tests serve quick, recent detection, hair testing provides a deeper insight into an individual's long-term substance use.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Hackney, KS, sets it apart from other methods. Capable of tracing drug consumption up to 90 days prior, hair tests offer employers comprehensive insights into an individual's substance history. This prolonged detection period is vital for employers seeking to understand the long-term habits of employees or candidates.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Hackney, KS, are recognized for their tamper-resistant qualities. Unlike other methods, altering hair samples is extremely difficult, ensuring results remain authentic and consistent. This characteristic assures employers that the data they receive are accurate and free from manipulation, thus fostering a trustworthy testing environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
