Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Laclede, Kansas. If you require a drug or alcohol test using hair samples, Accredited Drug Testing is your specialist, with testing facilities available in cities across the United States to conduct hair analyses. A hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches on the scalp, or body hair in some cases, is necessary. These tests can assess for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and various other custom hair analysis options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has grown in popularity for conducting drug assessments. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts now opt for hair testing as a replacement for traditional urine tests. Employers instilling zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probation individuals make use of this testing method. The key advantage of hair testing is its extended detection period, spanning up to 90 days, with collection in a direct supervision process, making it nearly foolproof. Yet, for detecting drug usage over the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an effective approach for identifying the use of drugs and alcohol. By capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair shaft, hair offers an extended history of substance use. When sampled near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use for up to an approximately 3-month timeframe. Collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches in length, consisting of about 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is ideal for both screening and confirmation purposes. For EtG, additional screenings, and tests beyond 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. In instances where scalp hair is not accessible, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be collected. The term head hair refers specifically to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses other types of hair (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

There are four key stages in the lab processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning deals with the initial input of a sample into the lab’s system. This step ensures that the sample is properly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry required beyond an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a preliminary quick assessment for drug abuse. While it is a cost-effective way to eliminate drug use from most samples, any positive screen needs further confirmation to be valid in legal contexts. Samples that potentially test positive during Screening must undergo secondary confirmation.

When a sample seems positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair in significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies to execute.

Any positive result from screening is confirmed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that are presumably positive are washed prior to confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is meticulously evaluated under both the designation of the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection window: Hair drug tests are able to identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to manipulate: It is notably tough to manipulate hair drug test results, which enhances their accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: The test can unveil a pattern of drug consumption across an extended time span, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Inability to spot recent intake: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier than other testing methods.
  • Variability in results: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites found in hair.

Note: Despite often being called "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair shaft and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Laclede, KS demonstrates numerous advantages over urine tests. With higher detection accuracy, hair exams cover an extensive range of substances, ensuring comprehensive results. Hair tests excel in reliability, being less prone to tampering than urine samples. As a result, they provide a credible evaluation for substance use, reassuring employers and authorities alike.

Extended Detection Window

Laclede, KS, benefits from hair follicle testing's extensive detection window, reaching up to 90 days. This timeframe offers an expansive look into an individual's drug history, surpassing shorter spans of urine tests. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
