Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Stanley, Kansas. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol screening, we are experts in hair testing, with facilities available in every city across the country to conduct these tests. Typically, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body for testing. Our hair tests analyze for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored testing options.

Lately, drug screening methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle testing. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine screenings. These tests are favored by employers with strict drug-free policies, courts, and individuals on probation. Hair follicle testing offers a long detection window, lasting up to 90 days, is conducted under supervision, and is highly tamper-resistant. Nevertheless, for detecting drug use within the previous five days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It captures biomarkers within the fibers of developing hair strands, providing a prolonged record of substance use. When clipped near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug use for up to three months. The process of collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to send.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches and comprising roughly 200 hair strands, equivalent to a pencil in diameter, will yield 100mg, the preferred quantity for evaluative testing. For EtG, supplemental, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advised. For accuracy, weigh the sample using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't an option, a comparable quantity of body hair may be collected. By head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses other types like facial and underarm hair.

Process Overview

The drug testing process in a lab primarily consists of these stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the introductory step, where the sample is logged into the lab's system. This stage confirms that the sample was securely sealed and sent, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing information not available from an electronic chain of custody.

Screening offers a preliminary assessment for substances. Although an economical method to exclude drug presence in most samples, any positive finding in Screening must undergo confirmation to hold up in legal contexts. All samples indicating a possible positive during Screening necessitate further validation.

In instances of potential positives during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. Here, substances are isolated from hair at a notably lower concentration compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluids), which is why hair screening presents the most complexity.

For validation of positive screenings, techniques such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS are employed. Prior to confirmation, any sample hinting at positivity is thoroughly cleaned. The process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, complies with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests reveal substance use spanning up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a limited window.
  • Hard to falsify: The difficulty in manipulating a hair test enhances result reliability.
  • Shows usage trends: Offers evidence of drug use over time rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Lacks detection of recent use: Drugs become traceable in hair only after 5-7 days.
  • Expensive: Hair tests generally incur greater costs than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual growth rates might alter metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although frequently termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is of the hair itself, not the root beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Stanley, KS
In contrast to standard urine screenings, hair follicle testing excels due to its enhanced detection accuracy and reliability. While urine tests might miss recent use, hair tests depict a comprehensive drug history. With a 90-day window, hair analysis offers a thorough insight, reducing dependency on less reliable traditional methods for long-term substance detection.

Extended Detection Window

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
