Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Victoria, Kansas. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, we offer specialized hair testing, with centers located Nationwide to conduct these tests. Generally, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body is required. This test can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for other testing needs.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become increasingly prevalent. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts are now opting for hair drug tests instead of traditional urine tests. Companies with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and those monitoring probationers favor this method. A significant advantage is its longer detection window, tracing drug use for up to 90 days, securely collected, and difficult to manipulate. For recent drug use (within 5 days), urine tests still provide the best accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments are increasingly regarded as an effective means for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer a detection span of up to about three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tough to tamper with, and convenient for transportation.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) near the scalp will produce 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for analysis. For those requiring EtG, additional tests, and/or screenings over 10 panels, a 150mg sample is suggested. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing is advisable. If head hair is scarce, a comparable amount of body hair may be acquired. The term 'head hair' specifically refers to scalp hair, while 'body hair' applies to other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab testing of a sample follows these four key procedures: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

In Accessioning, the specimen is initially logged into the lab system. This process checks that the sample was properly sealed and transported, provides it with a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any remaining data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary examination for drug presence. Although Screening is an efficient way to exclude drug use in many samples, any positive outcome requires confirmation to stand in court. Samples with presumptive positive findings in Screening necessitate a subsequent verification.

Samples showing presumptive positives in Screening move to Extraction, where additional hair is extracted for further investigation. This step involves extracting drugs from hair, where concentrations are much lesser compared to other methods like urine or oral fluid, deeming hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

Confirming a positive screening necessitates techniques such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive specimens undergo cleaning as necessary before confirmation. Each phase from Accessioning to Confirmation is carried out under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair category and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair screenings can reveal drug usage up to 90 days compared to the shorter window of urine tests.
  • Resistance to manipulation: It’s extremely challenging to falsify a hair drug test, enhancing result precision.
  • Historical data provision: Hair tests can disclose patterns of substance use over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability for immediate detection: It takes about 5-7 days for substances to become evident in hair.
  • Cost: Hair assessments typically incur higher costs than alternative testing routes.
  • Outcome variability: Elements such as hair color and personal growth variations might sway drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the evaluation precisely examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Victoria, KS, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests by providing superior detection accuracy. Unlike urine tests, hair testing reflects long-term drug use trends, making it more reliable for comprehensive substance screening.

The heightened sensitivity of hair follicle tests ensures a more reliable method for identifying drug use, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of substance testing strategies over conventional urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Victoria, KS offers an extended detection window, identifying drug use up to 90 days back. This gives employers an extensive insight into an individual's substance history beyond what standard tests offer.

The prolonged detection period available through hair follicle tests provides a distinct advantage for assessing an applicant's or employee's historical drug use, offering a broader view than urine tests.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Victoria, KS, hair follicle tests offer a tamper-resistant method that significantly reduces the chances of adulteration. This ensures the deliverance of reliable and unassailable results, unlike urine tests.

By providing a testing method that resists manipulation, hair follicle tests guarantee the integrity of the sample, offering peace of mind that the results can be trusted without question.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
