Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Balltown, Kentucky. If you're in need of a drug or alcohol hair test, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to specialist with facilities across the nation, equipped to perform hair testing. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body is typically needed. Hair tests can be tailored for drug, alcohol/ETG, or other specifications.

In modern times, the preference for drug testing methods has shifted towards hair follicle tests. More employers, legal bodies, and Substance Abuse professionals opt for hair testing instead of regular urine tests. Hair follicle testing is ideal for employers with strict drug policies, the judicial system, and individuals on probation due to its prolonged drug detection window of up to 90 days, its observed collection process, and the difficulty in tampering. However, for drug use detection in the past 5 days, urine testing remains unmatched.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drug usage by embedding biomarkers within the strands. When sampled near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection window of up to around 90 days for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of about 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg, which is the ideal quantity for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, extra tests, and tests over 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. We suggest measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not present, an equal measure of body hair can be used. "Head hair" pertains solely to scalp hair. "Body hair" encompasses all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages in the lab processing for a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample undergoes its initial processing into the laboratory system. This step ensures the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and handles any missing data not included via an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial quick assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to rule out drug use for most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for courtroom admissibility. Samples that are presumptive positive in Screening must receive secondary confirmation.

If a sample demonstrates a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is retrieved from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this procedure, drugs are isolated from hair at a much lower concentration than seen with other testing methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing the most challenging methodology.

Confirmed positive results are verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples indicated as presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The whole laboratory sequence, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the certification in compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for an extended period of up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Challenge to deceive: It is highly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, thereby enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Offers historical insight: It delivers a drug usage pattern over an interval, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically entail higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result discrepancies: Elements such as hair hue and individual hair growth variations can influence the concentration of drug metabolites within the hair.

Note: Though often termed as "hair follicle tests", the procedure examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why opt for hair follicle testing over urine testing in Balltown, KY? Hair testing outshines traditional methods due to its unmatched detection accuracy and credibility. It is superior in identifying long-term substance use, offering a reliability that urine testing cannot match.

Extended Detection Window

In Balltown, KY, hair follicle testing stands out with its extended detection window. This method can track drug use history for up to 90 days, giving employers a detailed view of an individual’s substance use over time. Such comprehensive coverage is invaluable for making informed decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
