Process Overview
The laboratory processing of a drug test follows four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During this phase, drugs are extracted from the hair at a lower concentration than other techniques (for example, urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies to execute.
Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation as required. The laboratory process, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.
