Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Hagerhill, Kentucky. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair assessments, with centers nationwide capable of performing these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific drug testing options.

Hair follicle drug tests have grown in popularity in recent years for drug screening. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse specialists prefer this method over standard urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, court officials, and probation officers often use hair follicle tests due to their longer detection window of up to 90 days, having an observed collection process that is tough to beat. However, for drug use detection within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as a valuable method for identifying substance use. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the strands. When hair is gathered near the scalp, it offers a detection period of up to about three months for alcohol and drugs. Gathering hair is straightforward, somewhat hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches containing roughly 200 hairs (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, an ideal quantity for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. References to head hair mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test includes four primary phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase of integrating a sample into a lab’s system. This step ensures the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fills in any additional data not covered by an electronic custody chain.

Screening is a preliminary check for substance abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires validation to be legally acceptable. Any Screening samples that result in presumed positives need further confirmation.

In the event of a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is sourced from the initial sample for Extraction. This stage extracts drugs from hair at lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug analysis particularly challenging.

Confirmation for any positive screen result is done through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples undergo necessary washing before confirmation. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection times.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating a hair test is nearly impossible, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Long-term data provision: Offers a history of drug use over time, rather than only recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair tests are generally costlier than alternative methods.
  • Result variations: Hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Although commonly mislabeled as "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair and urine testing in Hagerhill, KY, hair tests emerge as superior due to their expanded detection capabilities. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair tests can identify drug and alcohol consumption over a far longer period.

The reliability of hair follicle testing is unmatched, providing more comprehensive insight into an individual's drug use history, making it the preferred choice for employers and legal entities seeking dependable results.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle tests in Hagerhill, KY are prized for their extended detection window, capturing drug usage up to 90 days prior. This allows employers to better understand a potential employee's substance habits over time.

This extended period surpasses conventional testing methods, providing a complete picture of a candidate's drug use, making it a robust tool for maintaining a drug-free work environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Hagerhill, KY reduces the risk of tampering with samples significantly. Its rigorous testing process ensures results that are both reliable and indisputable.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
