Accredited Drug Testing provides extensive hair follicle drug testing services in Fields, Louisiana. If you require a hair drug or alcohol screening, our organization excels in hair testing, with facilities located across all major cities Nationwide equipped to conduct hair testing. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head, or body hair, is needed. Our tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific hair testing options.

In recent times, conducting drug screenings has increasingly involved hair follicle drug tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair drug screening over the traditional urine-based methods. These tests are favored by employers with strict no-drug policies, by judiciary parties, and for probation cases. The foremost advantage of hair testing is a prolonged detection period, often up to 90 days, collected under supervision, making tampering nearly impossible. However, for drug use detection within the past 5 days, urine testing remains the most accurate choice.

What it is, How it works

Interpreted as an efficient resource, hair testing stands out in identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It captures drug and alcohol markers within the fibers along the continuously developing hair strand, thus delivering a chronological record of substance dependence. When sourced near the scalp, hair can serve as a repository for substance detection tracing back close to three months. Collection is straightforward, tampering proves challenging, and it is convenient to ship.

An optimal sample measuring 1.5 inches, equating to roughly 200 strands (akin to the girth of a #2 pencil) when taken closest to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair—ideal for screening and validation. For comprehensive tests such as EtG, extra panels, or exceeding 10-panel tests, 150mg of hair is advisable. It is suggested to verify the specimen weight using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp strands are non-existent, an equivalent mass of body hair is acceptable. When discussing head hair, the reference is solely to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses other types (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

Drug test outcomes undergo four principal laboratory procedures: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Initial sample handling within a laboratory's infrastructure constitutes Accessioning. This involves confirming the integrity of the sample seal and shipment, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data not gathered via an electronic chain of custody.

Screening acts as a preliminary appraisal for illicit substance presence. Although Screening efficiently excludes drug usage for most samples at a lower cost, positive results must undergo Confirmation for legal acceptance. Any tentatively positive Screening samples necessitate further corroboration.

Samples flagging as tentatively positive during Screening have additional hair taken from the initial batch for the Extraction phase. Here, drug components extract from hair at notably lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or saliva), attributing hair testing as an intricate approach.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques are employed to confirm any positive Screening results. All tentative positives undergo requisite washes before Confirmation. The comprehensive procedural integrity from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair assessment and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 benchmarks.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection range: Hair analysis offers drug use detection spanning up to three months, surpassing the shorter timeframe of urine tests.
  • Accuracy against tampering: Abusing hair drug tests presents significant difficulty, thus enhancing result reliability.
  • Chronological insights: It yields a drug usage timeline, transcending recent consumption indications.

Limitations:

  • Recent use elusion: Drugs typically reach detectable levels in hair within a 5-7 day period.
  • Higher expenses: The cost of hair drug testing typically surpasses other methodologies.
  • Outcome variability: Variability in individual hair growth or color might impact drug metabolite concentration levels in hair samples.

Note: Despite being occasionally labeled as "hair follicle tests", the evaluation targets the hair strand itself, not the Follicle beneath the scalp.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
