Located in Hodge, Louisiana, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests. With expertise in hair and alcohol testing, and locations in every major city nationwide, we're prepared to conduct hair analysis. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Tests reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG, and can be tailored for other needs.

In recent times, hair follicle testing is increasingly favored for drug assessments. Employers, judiciary systems, and addiction specialists now often choose hair tests over standard urine tests. These tests are essential for employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probationary cases. A key advantage lies in their extended detection period—up to 90 days—collected in a secure manner, making deception extremely difficult. However, when identifying drug use within a recent 5-day window, urine testing remains the best option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. This technique offers a comprehensive history of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the growing strands of hair. When taken near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug use over roughly a 3-month period. The collection of hair is straightforward, resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of roughly 200 strands (akin to the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation tests. When testing for EtG, additional substances, or conducting tests exceeding 10 panels, it is advised to gather 150mg of the sample. It is suggested to weigh the sample with a jeweler's scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair can be utilized. The term head hair specifically refers to scalp hair, while body hair covers other types such as facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The drug testing laboratory process consists of four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves integrating the sample into the lab's system. This step includes confirming the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performing any necessary data entry not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a rapid initial assessment for substance abuse. Although cost-effective for eliminating drug use in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for court validity. Samples indicating a presumptive positive in Screening need subsequent confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is used from the original sample for the Extraction phase. Drugs in hair are extracted at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening results utilizes GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positive samples undergo necessary washing prior to confirmation. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning through Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can trace drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter detection period.
  • Difficulty to cheat: It is exceptionally challenging to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical data: It reveals a pattern of drug usage over time, rather than just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately after 5-7 days.
  • Cost: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites found in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Hodge, LA When it comes to accuracy, hair follicle tests shine above traditional urine tests, detecting a wider range of substances with enhanced precision. Unlike urine tests, which only detect recent usage, hair tests trace drug use over months, providing a more comprehensive analysis. Hair testing eliminates the guesswork, offering reliable assurance for employers and legal entities.

Hair testing's superior detection window embraces 90 days, far exceeding that of urine. This longer timeframe allows for a thorough review of an individual's substance history. Trust in hair follicle testing for its unparalleled accuracy and dependability over more conventional methods, ensuring a clear evaluation of substance use.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Hodge, LA Hair follicle tests provide a nuanced picture of drug use history by examining substance retention over 90 days. This extensive detection period offers employers deep insights into an individual's long-term substance habits, invaluable for informed decision making in recruitment and assessment.

Regular drug testing methods fall short in coverage compared to hair follicle tests. Instead of offering a limited snapshot, these tests unveil a comprehensive archive of substance usage, aiding those who require detailed evaluations. Employers and authorities can avail this wealth of information for making important decisions based on a holistic understanding.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in Hodge, LA Hair follicle tests stand out for their resistance to tampering, offering an unbeaten layer of reliability. Unlike other methods susceptible to manipulation, hair tests secure accurate insights by eliminating the risk of sample adulteration. This integrity ensures unwavering confidence in results, vital for maintaining high standards in testing processes.

By employing hair testing, individuals seeking to modify results find themselves at an impasse. The very nature of hair follicle testing inhibits tampering, reinforcing the authenticity of results. Employers and legal entities benefit from this security, encountering results they can trust every time without question.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
