Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Lone Star, Louisiana. If you require a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with facilities available across all states to assist you. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Hair samples can reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailor-made options for different testing needs.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more common approach to handling drug screenings. The method is favored by numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial authorities, and individuals under probation find hair tests advantageous due to their extended drug detection window of up to 90 days, their closely monitored collection process, and their resistance to tampering. Despite its advantages, urine testing remains the most reliable for identifying drug use within a 5-day window.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It offers an extended timeline depiction of alcohol and drug use by capturing biomarkers within the hair strand's structure. When hair is gathered near the scalp, it can reveal an approximate detection period of up to 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

Gathering a sample of 1.5 inches, approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the diameter of a #2 pencil), near the scalp yields 100mg, ideal for screening and confirmation tests. For EtG, additional tests, and panels exceeding 10, a 150mg specimen is advised. Utilizing a jeweler's scale for weighing is suggested. If head hair is not available, an equivalent volume of body hair can be collected. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory progression of testing a drug sample entails four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning denotes the initial processing stage of a sample within a lab's system. This phase ensures that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) randomly, and completes any additional data entry not addressed by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening provides an initial quick assessment for abuse drugs. Although this stage offers an economical method to exclude drug presence in most samples, any positive result in Screening must be confirmed for legal admissibility. Presumptively positive samples need further confirmation.

If a Screening result is presumptively positive, a portion of the original specimen is further prepared for Extraction, where drugs are isolated from the hair at a significantly lower concentration than with other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid). Hence, performing hair drug screening is more demanding.

Confirming a positive Screening outcome is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples suspected positive are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and complies with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests trace drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests that offer a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Resistance to manipulation: Cheating a hair drug test is notably challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical insight: It outlines a pattern of drug use across time, beyond mere recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Detecting drugs in hair takes around 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing typically involves higher costs compared to other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences may influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests," the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Lone Star, LA, surpasses urine tests by offering superior detection and solid dependability. The key benefit is its extended detection timeframe, stretching up to 90 days, capturing a broader spectrum of drug use history.

Compared to urine tests, hair testing provides greater reliability, as it counters common cheating methods. Employers and authorities favor hair tests for their comprehensive detection and difficulty to manipulate.

This method is invaluable for businesses and legal contexts looking for robust drug screening. It effectively illustrates substance use patterns, significantly improving testing accuracy and making it a preferred method.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing provides a far-reaching detection window, up to 90 days, greatly beneficial in Lone Star, LA. It unveils a comprehensive history of substance use, offering deeper insights into an individual's habits than other methods.

This extended detection capability makes hair testing superior for understanding long-term substance use which benefits employers, giving a more thorough view of an individual's behaviors over three months.

Employers in Lone Star, LA, can rely on the prolonged detection of hair tests for a detailed picture of substance use, making it an excellent tool for ensuring workplace compliance.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The robustness of hair follicle testing in Lone Star, LA, stems from its tamper-resistant nature. It greatly lowers the risk of sample adulteration, ensuring results are reliable and undisputable.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
