In Sicily Island, Louisiana, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we're specialists in hair testing with centers available in cities across the nation to conduct these tests. Typically, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, either from your head crown or body, for analysis. Options include tests for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or customized hair testing.
Hair follicle drug tests have become more prevalent in recent years, often replacing standard urine tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals increasingly demand these tests. They're favored in zero-tolerance workplaces and by probation services. A key advantage is the longer detection period, up to 90 days, combined with observed collections, making evasion attempts nearly impossible. For detecting recent use, within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

Hair testing has evolved into a significant mechanism for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged history of substances by embedding biomarkers within the strands. With samples taken from near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to 3 months for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.
A 1.5-inch sample, consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil diameter), nearest the scalp, will yield 100mg of hair, which is ideal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional elements, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be taken. Head hair refers specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair (facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The four essential stages in the laboratory analysis of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning involves the primary management of a sample into the lab's records. This step includes ensuring the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional information not included by an electronic custody record.
Screening offers a preliminary rapid assessment for drug misuse. Though Screening is an affordable method to exclude drug use in most samples, positive results in Screening must be confirmed for legal admissibility. Samples with a presumptive positive in Screening require further confirmation.
In cases where Screening is presumptively positive, additional hair is drawn from the primary sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at substantially lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid); hence, hair drug testing is considered the most intricate testing method.
A positive screening result undergoes Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Every presumptively positive sample is cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The full laboratory workflow, from Accessioning to Confirmation, complies with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.
Advantages of hair drug testing:
Limitations:
Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the test analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

It served as a prominent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, facilitating groundbreaking advancements in hair testing and analysis. In this special issue of Drug Testing and Analysis, we aim to showcase the remarkable manuscripts presented at this significant event, shedding light on the latest research and highlighting the future directions in this field.
Novel Analytical Techniques: The Verona meeting witnessed the unveiling of cutting-edge analytical techniques, offering enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and accuracy for drug testing. Remarkable advancements in sample preparation, detection, and identification of drug compounds have been presented. The manuscripts in this section presented novel approaches, such as multianalyte methods and on-line preparation which can enable rapid analysis and improve thorough forensic investigations.
Biomarkers and Pharmacokinetics: The identification and validation of reliable biomarkers and pharmacokinetic studies are fundamental aspects of drug testing and analysis. The impact of hair treatments on the oxidation/decomposition of drugs in hair was also explored, as the long-term fate of drugs incorporated in the keratin matrix. Furthermore, the SoHT meeting in Verona featured research on the identification and quantification of alcohol abuse biomarkers, their stability, and their correlation with exposure and other biomarkers.
Forensic Applications and Interpretation: One of the vital objectives of hair testing is its application in forensic investigations and legal proceedings. The SoHT meeting in Verona emphasized the significance of rigorous interpretation of analytical results and the need for standardized protocols. Manuscripts in this section present advancements in forensic toxicology, and have explored the challenges posed by emerging designer drugs and strategies to combat their proliferation. The pitfalls encountered when the exogenous/endogenous nature of a substance is questioned were presented and discussed. The special issue presents also manuscripts that delve into the ethical implications of drug testing in drug facilitated sexual assaults.
Clinical Applications of hair testing are witnessed by the insight on environmental tobacco smoke exposure, assessed by hair analysis in a population of students and the study of in utero-exposure to drugs of abuse through neonatal hair analysis. Exposure to drugs was also important in cases of child abuse/neglect, when the clinical purpose of hair testing merge with its forensic applications.
The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed, and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
