Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Burr Oak, Michigan. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our centers, found in every Nationwide city, specialize in this service. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is typically needed. Drugs, alcohol/ETG, or personalized testing options can be assessed with hair tests.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become the preferred method of screening for drugs. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse experts demand this method rather than traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests appeal to employers enforcing strict drug-free policies, the courts, and probation cases due to their extensive detection period of up to 90 days, nearly impossible to manipulate, though urine tests retain accuracy for recent use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations have gained recognition as an effective means for detecting substance and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of alcohol and various drugs by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands' fibers. When taken from near the scalp, hair may furnish approximately a 90-day window for detecting substances like alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat complex to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches comprised of roughly 200 hair strands (akin to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation processes. For EtG, additional tests, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for specimen weighing is suggested. If scalp hair cannot be retrieved, a proportional quantity of body hair is acceptable. Head hair specifically indicates scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other hair categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key stages in the laboratory processing of a drug analysis outcome encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the preliminary handling of a specimen into a laboratory's framework. This phase ensures proper sealing and dispatch of the sample, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concludes any missing data entry not facilitated by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial expeditious analysis for substances of abuse. Although Screening is an economical approach to exclude drug presence in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation for legal acceptability. Any samples indicating a positive status in Screening necessitate further validation.

If a sample indicates positivity in the Screening phase, more hair is drawn from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. This phase extracts drugs from hair at a significantly reduced concentration compared to alternative methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which contributes to the complexity of performing hair drug analysis.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Prior to confirmation, presumptive positive samples are washed if necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes evaluation under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug evaluations can identify drug use for as long as 90 days, compared to urine assessments which have a narrower detection timeline.
  • Resistance to deception: It is highly challenging to deceive a hair drug evaluation, leading to more reliable results.
  • Chronological data provision: It can reveal a pattern of drug activity over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It requires roughly 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically incur higher costs than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing outperforms urine testing in Burr Oak, MI, due to its superior detection capabilities. While urine tests only reveal recent drug usage, hair tests showcase a broader period, offering a more thorough analysis of an individual's consumption patterns. This leads to higher accuracy and reliability.

The detailed insight from hair follicle tests ensures employers in Burr Oak, MI, can enforce drug-free policies with greater confidence. The comprehensive data from hair analysis provides an edge over traditional urine tests, ensuring organizations maintain safe and compliant work environments.

Extended Detection Window

In Burr Oak, MI, the extended detection window of hair follicle testing makes it highly beneficial. Hair tests can reveal drug usage over a lengthy period, typically up to 90 days, offering employers an extensive view of an individual's history. This enables more informed decision-making regarding employment.

Unlike other testing methods, which offer shorter detection windows, hair follicle testing efficiently traces substance use over multiple months. Employers gain a fuller understanding of an individual's long-term behaviors, enhancing workforce safety and integrity.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Burr Oak, MI, offers unmatched reliability. Due to the method's robust procedures, the risk of sample tampering is significantly minimized, ensuring that results are both reliable and indisputable for all concerned parties.

Hair follicle tests bypass common methods of adulteration associated with other tests, providing peace of mind for those enforcing drug-free policies. The integrity of the process bolsters trust in outcomes, promoting a safe and compliant environment in the workplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
