Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Kipling, Michigan. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in this service with centers across all cities Nationwide. Typically, the crown of the head or body hair, measuring 1.5 to 2 inches, is needed. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals prefer a hair drug test over the conventional urine test. Hair follicle tests benefit zero-tolerance drug policy employers, courts, and individuals on probation due to their longer drug detection period, usually up to 90 days, and their secured collection process. However, urine testing remains more precise for drug use within the preceding 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers an extended history of substances by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands. When obtained near the scalp, it can reflect up to a three-month usage period for drugs and alcohol. Hair is easy to gather, hard to interfere with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section with around 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg, which is optimal for analysis. For EtG, extras, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is suggested. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to verify the weight of the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, an equal quantity of body hair might be used. By head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Procedure Overview

The laboratory process for drug testing is structured into four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning integrates a sample into a lab’s operations. This step verifies that the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigns a random LAN, and finalizes any missing data from an electronic chain of custody.

Screening assesses for substance abuse swiftly. It's an economical means to dismiss drug presence in most samples, but a positive result needs affirmations for courtworthiness. Presumptive positives in Screening need a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the sample for the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at lower levels compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), highlighting hair analysis as notably intricate.

Confirmation of positive results occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples flagged in the initial tests are cleaned before confirmation if necessary. The entire process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under both CAP standards and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can identify substance use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection spans.
  • Hard to tamper: Cheating a hair test is very challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Offers usage patterns: Provides insight into substance habits over time, beyond recent usage.

Constraints:

  • Cannot determine recent ingestion: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair testing usually incurs higher costs than other methods.
  • Inconsistencies: Factors like hair color and personal hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Referred to as "hair follicle tests", the assay analyzes the strands rather than the follicles beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Kipling, MI, offers significant advantages over traditional urine tests. This method stands out in detecting problematic substances thanks to its exceptional accuracy and reliability. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
