Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Pinconning, Michigan. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing. We have centers in all cities nationwide that conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the crown or body is required. Hair samples can be tested for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options.

Recently, drug testing methods increasingly involve hair follicle drug tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts often demand hair drug tests over standard urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probation officers utilize these tests. The key advantage is a longer detection period, up to 90 days, with observed collection, making it nearly cheat-proof. However, for recent drug use, within 5 days, urine tests are more accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair tests have emerged as a potent means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged record of alcohol and drug presence by embedding biomarkers within the strands of the growing hair. When cut near the scalp, hair can reveal up to an approximate three-month period of alcohol and drug presence detection. Hair is easy to gather, moderately resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the girth of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, deemed ideal for both screening and validation. For EtG additions and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen amount of 150mg is advised. It's suggested to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If head hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary four stages in the lab handling of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the preliminary handling of a sample into the lab’s system. This process encompasses confirming that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input not furnished by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening comprises an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to negate drug usage in most samples, a screen yielding positive necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. All samples that are preliminarily positive during Screening require a secondary confirmation.

Should a sample be noted as preliminarily positive in the Screening phase, more hair is collected from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. Here, substances are drawn from hair at considerably lower concentrations than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening stands out as a notably complex method.

Any positive screening finding undergoes confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All preliminary positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as warranted. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criterion as well as the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use spanning up to 90 days, contrasting the briefer detection period with urine tests.
  • Hard to deceive: Manipulating a hair drug test proves exceedingly difficult, increasing result accuracy.
  • Historical usage presentation: It can depict usage patterns over time, rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapability to trace recent usage: It requires around 5-7 days for substances to become discernible in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments tend to be costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair pigmentation and personal differences in hair growth can influence the metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often named as "hair follicle tests", the screening examines the hair strand, not the underlying scalp follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing drug testing methods, hair follicle tests in Pinconning, MI, stand out for their superior detection accuracy. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair testing provides a more comprehensive drug history, identifying substance use that dates back much further.
The reliability of hair tests ensures they're nearly tamper-proof, making them more dependable than urine-based methods, especially for employers with strict no-drug policies.

These tests, unlike their urine counterparts, are hard to evade. They monitor drug consumption over a prolonged period, providing employers with the insights needed to make informed hiring decisions. Hair testing's extensive reach beats out the more common urine tests by delivering detailed reports.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Pinconning, MI, offers a remarkable extended detection window, identifying drug use for as long as 90 days. This gives employers a thorough understanding of an individual's drug use history over a significant time frame.
This extended period is particularly beneficial for businesses aiming for accuracy in determining an employee's past substance use.

The longevity of detection offered by these tests is unmatched, offering potential and current employers valuable insights over what urine tests can provide. Hair follicle testing is consistently chosen due to this ability to present a long-term perspective.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Pinconning, MI, is known for its tamper-resistant nature, significantly reducing sample adulteration risk. Thanks to the direct collection method, attempts to manipulate results are notably lower than in urine testing.
The confidence in authentic results from hair tests ensures companies maintain high standards in workforce quality. Businesses benefit from trustworthy outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
