Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Stockbridge, Michigan. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis and operates testing centers in cities across the nation. A hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches on the scalp is necessary, although body hair may also suffice. Hair tests can evaluate drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized testing options.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become a more common method for detecting drug use. Numerous employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts prefer a hair drug test over a urine test. Hair follicle drug assessments are utilized by employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial systems, and individuals on probation. A significant advantage is the extended detection window of up to 90 days, gathered through an observed procedure, making it almost impossible to falsify. However, for detecting very recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of alcohol and drug use by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When procured near the scalp, hair can reveal up to nearly a three-month detection timeframe for alcohol and drugs. The collection of hair is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch snippet of roughly 200 strands of hair (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the perfect sample size for screening and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or assessments above 10 panels, a 150mg amount of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair can't be obtained, an equal amount of body hair can be gathered. By head hair, we refer exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps entailed in the laboratory handling of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial incorporation of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This encompasses confirming the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any remaining data entry not achieved via an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial rapid evaluation for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to rule out drug usage for most samples, a screening that tests positive requires confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples that are preliminarily positive in Screening necessitate secondary verification.

If a sample is preliminarily positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is drawn from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), contributing to the complexity of conducting hair drug screening.

Verification of any positive screening result is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All initially positive samples undergo washing before verification as needed. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Verification is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 benchmarks.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Challenge to deceive: It is exceedingly challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: It can portray a trend of drug usage over a period, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent use: It takes roughly 5-7 days for drugs to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can affect the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", the test actually evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is more effective than traditional urine testing in Stockbridge, MI. Accuracy is a key advantage of hair tests, providing more reliable results. Detection periods are significantly extended compared to urine tests, offering a broader insight into substance use history over time. This unique capability makes hair follicle tests a superior choice for many employers and organizations.

Compared to urine testing, which can only detect recent drug use, hair follicle tests capture a wider timeline, presenting a comprehensive view of an individual's drug use habits. This feature is crucial for employers who prioritize employee reliability and safety. Hair testing's inherent strengths contribute to better-informed decisions and a safer workplace environment.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers a unique advantage with its extended detection window in Stockbridge, MI. Unlike other testing methods, it can identify drug use dating back up to 90 days, offering a comprehensive overview of a person's substance history. This capability is vital for employers aiming to understand long-term behavioral patterns in potential or current employees.

The extensive detection period means hair follicle testing is more adept at spotting patterns of use, allowing employers to make more informed hiring or retention decisions. This long-term view ensures that all aspects of an individual's past substance use are considered, providing a thorough assessment beyond immediate usage events.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Stockbridge, MI, hair follicle tests are known for their tamper-resistant nature, significantly mitigating the risk of sample adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
