Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug testing services in Genola, Minnesota. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched. We operate testing centers nationwide, capable of conducting hair tests efficiently. Candidates need 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair. Tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG or offer other tailored hair testing solutions.

Over recent years, hair follicle drug tests have become a preferred method for substance testing. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts are opting for hair drug tests instead of the traditional urine tests. These tests are ideal for employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probation cases due to their prolonged detection span of about 90 days, conducted under observation, making cheating difficult. However, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests still hold the edge in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a potent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. It delivers an extended history of alcohol and other drugs by capturing biomarkers in the strands of growing hair. When sourced near the scalp, hair can offer around a 3-month detection period for alcohol and various drugs. It's easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section made up of roughly 200 hair strands, equivalent to the width of a #2 pencil, taken nearest the scalp, provides 100mg of hair, the optimal sample size for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is recommended. It's advised to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. In cases where scalp hair isn't present, a comparable quantity of body hair can be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair comprises all other kinds of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory handling of a drug test result consists of four major stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This process verifies that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input missing from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary rapid assessment for potential drug abuse. Even though Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug usage in the majority of specimens, a positive result necessitates confirmation to be legally valid. Any samples suspected to be positive in Screening require additional confirmation.

When a sample appears positive during the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly reduced concentrations than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), leading to hair drug screening being the most challenging methodology to execute.

Positive results from screening are verified using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests are capable of detecting drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: It's exceedingly challenging to cheat a hair drug test, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides an overview of drug usage patterns over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to identify recent use: Detection of drugs in hair takes around 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually come at a higher cost compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the presence of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests," the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing eclipses traditional urine tests with superior detection accuracy and dependability in Genola, MN. Hair tests cover a broader range of substances, detecting use over an extended period. Unlike urine tests, which might miss chronological substance consumption, hair testing provides a comprehensive snapshot, ensuring robust analytics and reliable conclusions for employers and legal bodies.

Extended Detection Window

One of the noteworthy benefits of hair follicle testing in Genola, MN, is its extensive detection window, spanning up to 90 days. This duration allows employers to thoroughly assess an individual’s substance use history, presenting a clearer picture of patterns and ensuring informed decisions. Such long-term insight surpasses that of shorter windowed tests, offering a holistic view of drug use behavior.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Genola, MN, hair follicle tests offer an almost tamper-proof solution for substance testing. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
