Accredited Drug Testing brings comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services to Wykoff, Minnesota. Whether it's a hair drug or alcohol test you require, we specialize in hair testing and provide testing sites in all cities across the nation to conduct a hair test. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head's crown or body. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or various other customizations.

Over recent years, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become a preferred method in drug testing. Many employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse experts now choose hair drug tests over typical urine tests. Hair follicle tests are favored by zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probationary individuals, providing a longer drug detection window of up to 90 days. Collected under observation, it’s nearly impossible to manipulate. However, for tracing drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair sampling is recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol use. Hair captures a long-term record of substances by trapping biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When collected close to the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to about 90 days for substances like alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) taken nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample size for initial screening and confirmation tests. For EtG, additional tests, or tests requiring more than 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. It's advisable to weigh the specimen using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair can be used instead. "Head hair" refers specifically to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The main phases in lab processing for a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial processing of a sample in a lab's system. This process involves confirming that the sample was correctly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and entering any extra data that might not be available through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening conducts a preliminary check for substance abuse. While Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug use for most samples, any positive result in Screening requires confirmation to be legally valid. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening need further confirmation.

If a sample appears positive during the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction process. During this stage, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most complex method to conduct.

Positive screening results are confirmed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples testing presumptive positive undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can detect substances for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Difficult to tamper with: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, improving result reliability.
  • Provides historical insight: It offers a record of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Can't identify recent consumption: It typically takes around 5-7 days for substances to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the actual test analyzes the hair strand, not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing surpass urine testing in Wykoff, MN? Firstly, hair tests offer superior detection accuracy over traditional urine tests. Unlike urine samples, which detect recent drug use, hair samples provide insight into an individual's drug history over 90 days. This extended detection is crucial for employers who require an in-depth analysis of substance use without the limitations of urine tests.

Additionally, the hair follicle test's precision and reliability are unmatched, making it the preferred choice for employers concerned with maintaining a strict no-drug policy. Unlike urine tests, which can be tampered with, hair tests provide a robust result that diminishes the potential for deception, ensuring a truthful assessment of an individual's drug use history in Wykoff, MN.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window in Wykoff, MN, crucial for employers for a comprehensive review of substance use. Hair tests can track drug usage up to 90 days, significantly surpassing the limited timeframe of urine tests. This extended window allows businesses to assess applicants or employees' consistent abstinence from drug use, enabling more informed hiring decisions.

Employers in Wykoff, MN, looking to understand an employee's long-term substance history will find hair testing an invaluable tool. By providing a historical perspective on drug use, hair tests offer insights far beyond those afforded by other testing methods. This comprehensive look at drug usage past means businesses can support a safer, more drug-free workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests significantly decreases sample adulteration risk, securing trustworthy results in Wykoff, MN. Unlike urine tests, which can be easily tampered with, hair testing comprises collecting samples in a controlled environment, making cheating almost impossible. This secure testing method guarantees integrity in drug test outcomes.

Hair follicle testing, renowned for its secure process, ensures the integrity of results isn't compromised. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
