In Cardwell, Missouri, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Whether you're in need of testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in hair analysis. With testing centers available in every city across the nation, acquiring a hair test is convenient and accessible. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is sufficient. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, among other specialized options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become more common in the sphere of drug testing. It is increasingly favored by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts over traditional urine testing. Companies with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and probation programs rely on hair drug tests. The significant advantage of these tests is detecting drug use over a longer period, up to 90 days, making them hard to cheat, despite urine tests being more accurate for use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of hair as they grow. When hair is gathered near the scalp, it can offer up to a roughly 3-month timeframe for alcohol and drug detection. Collecting hair is straightforward, fairly resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising around 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp produces 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for testing and verification. For EtG, additional assessments, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg portion of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is lacking, an equivalent amount of body hair might be obtained. When specifying head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair includes all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four core steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial preparation of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This involves validating that the sample was sealed and dispatched accurately, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and executing any supplementary data input not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening constitutes an initial rapid assay for illicit substances. Although Screening serves as an economical method to exclude drug presence in most samples, a positive screen must be substantiated for court admissibility. Any samples preliminarily positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If a sample is tentatively positive during Screening, additional hair is retrieved from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this process, drugs are isolated from hair at a significantly reduced concentration compared to other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screen is performed with methods like GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All assumed positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if needed. The full laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests with a briefer detection period.
  • High difficulty to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Historical usage data: It furnishes a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Lacks capability for recent use detection: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to appear in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternate drug testing options.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the test itself evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle located beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing: In Cardwell, MO, hair testing offers superior detection accuracy and reliability over traditional urine tests. Its increased detection window of up to 90 days surpasses urine testing's limitations.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
