Accredited Drug Testing offers full-service hair follicle drug evaluations in Corning, Missouri. If you are seeking a hair drug or alcohol analysis, Accredited Drug Testing is proficient in hair assessments with facilities in every city nationwide equipped to conduct hair assessments. Typically, you need between 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head's crown, or body hair can be used in many scenarios. Hair analyses can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide other tailored testing solutions.

Recently, drug detection methods have increasingly included the hair follicle drug test. Numerous employers, judges, and substance misuse specialists are mandating a hair-based drug evaluation over the conventional urine analysis. Companies with zero-tolerance drug policies, judicial systems, and individuals on supervision utilize hair follicle tests. A significant advantage of hair follicle evaluations is a considerably extended detection window for substances, typically up to 90 days, which is collected under supervision and almost impossible to falsify. Nonetheless, urine evaluations remain the most precise for detecting usage in the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair records a prolonged history of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer up to a three-month detection window for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (similar to the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, supplement tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We recommend using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair may be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four major steps in the laboratory procedure for processing a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial incorporation of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This step involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry not encompassed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient approach to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive result needs further confirmation to be valid in a court of law. Any samples that present as presumptively positive during Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, more hair is taken from the initial specimen and prepped for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other techniques (e.g. urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples deemed presumptive positive are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, rendering the results more reliable.
  • Yields historical data: It can illustrate a pattern of drug use over time, not solely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other drug test methods.
  • Variability in results: Elements like hair color and personalized differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Despite the frequent designation as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Corning, MO, hair follicle testing stands out against urine analyses for its superior detection capabilities. Hair testing offers unmatched consistency and reliability in identifying substance use. While urine tests provide limited detection windows, hair analyses span extensive periods, allowing for comprehensive monitoring.

The significant advantage lies in the significantly extended detection timeframe of hair testing. This method not only offers remarkable accuracy but also demonstrates greater resilience to evasion tactics, promoting a transparent approach.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Corning, MO, excels in its ability to trace drug usage over an extended duration, reaching up to 90 days. This feature grants employers a thorough overview of an individual’s substance history, essential for informed decision-making. Urine tests, by comparison, restrict the detection period, limiting insight.

The elongated detection span of hair tests serves as a powerful tool for projecting a clear picture of an individual’s past habits. This depth of insight establishes hair testing as a pivotal component in responsible hiring and employment practices.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Corning, MO, offer increased integrity by minimizing sample manipulation risks. This method proves to be highly tamper-resistant, ensuring authenticity and trustworthiness of each evaluation. Traditional urine tests face challenges from potential adulteration, impacting reliability.

The collection process for hair tests reinforces their credibility, as it is challenging to cheat. This secure method ensures that outcomes are as intended, reflecting true substance use history and enhancing trust in test results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
