Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Triplett, Missouri. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with centers available across the nation for administering a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for other specific tests.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become increasingly common. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts now opt for hair drug tests over standard urine tests. These tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, by courts, and by probation services. The key advantage of hair follicle tests is their extended detection period, lasting up to 90 days, obtained under direct supervision, making them nearly impossible to manipulate. Yet, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of alcohol and drug use by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair shaft. When cut close to the scalp, hair can reveal up to a three-month window of drug and alcohol usage. Hair is easy to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the ideal amount for both screening and confirming. For additional EtG, extended panels, or examinations exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the hair sample is advised. It's beneficial to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If head hair isn't available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be gathered. By "head hair," we mean scalp hair exclusively. "Body hair" includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for processing a drug test result involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase where a sample is entered into the laboratory’s system. This step ensures the sample is sealed and shipped correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary check for the presence of abused drugs. Although it is a cost-efficient way to eliminate drug usage for most samples, any positive screen must be confirmed for legal acceptability. Samples that test presumptively positive during Screening need a subsequent confirmation.

If Screening yields a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepped for the Extraction phase. In this step, drugs are pulled from the hair at a much lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is conducted in compliance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is quite difficult to deceive a hair drug test, thereby enhancing result precision.
  • Shows usage history: It can depict a pattern of drug usage over a timeline, not solely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot find recent usage: Drugs are detectable in hair after around 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Frequently called "hair follicle tests", the test analyzes the hair strands rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

In Triplett, MO, hair follicle testing is preferred over traditional urine testing due to its superior detection capabilities and reliability. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
