In Wasola, Missouri, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this area and maintains testing centers nationwide, including a location in every city, capable of performing hair testing. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown is utilized, though body hair can also be used. Hair tests are available for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored test types.

Nowadays, hair follicle testing is increasingly used for drug testing purposes. Employers, legal systems, and substance abuse specialists are often opting for this method over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug-use policies, legal authorities, and probation officers frequently utilize hair follicle tests. The main advantage is its longer detection window of up to 90 days and secure collection procedure, making it nearly impossible to compromise. However, urine tests are still preferred for detection within the previous five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become regarded as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers an extended history of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can present approximately a 3-month detection window for alcohol and other substances. Hair is uncomplicated to collect, relatively tough to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (around the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for evaluation and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is suggested. We advise measuring the specimen on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unobtainable, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair refers to all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial transformation of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This comprises confirming that the sample was properly sealed and transported, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data input not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial prompt assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug consumption on the majority of samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation to be permissible in court. Any samples that show presumptive positivity in Screening require a secondary confirmation.

If a sample shows presumptive positivity in the Screening stage, more hair is extracted from the initial specimen and processed for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is considered the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory operation from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, making the outcomes more reliable.
  • Provides historical data: It can exhibit a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs typically require 5-7 days to be detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests are usually more costly than other drug evaluation methods.
  • Variations in results: Variables like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can affect the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While frequently labeled as "hair follicle tests", the test actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Wasola, MO, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing in several ways. One major advantage is superior detection accuracy, as hair tests effectively detect substances over a longer period. While urine tests reveal recent use, hair follicle tests unveil sustained patterns of drug use. This depth in detection offers a clearer substance use history.

Hair testing is renowned in Wasola, MO, for its reliability over traditional urine tests. Not only do hair tests provide a broader detection window, but they also minimize the risk of result tampering. By highlighting long-term drug use and reducing test circumvention, hair testing offers a robust alternative to urine testing.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Wasola, MO, benefit from hair follicle testing due to its extended detection window. This method reveals drug use history extending up to 90 days, offering valuable insights into a candidate's long-term behavior. A broader detection timeline ensures a comprehensive understanding of potential employees’ substance use patterns.

With a capacity to cover up to 90 days of a person's substance history, hair follicle tests are immensely beneficial for employers in Wasola, MO. This extended detection duration allows employers to see beyond recent behavior and instead assess a broader pattern, which is crucial in making informed hiring decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The reliability of hair follicle tests in Wasola, MO, is underscored by their tamper-resistant nature. It's challenging to alter or substitute hair samples, making it a trusted method for obtaining accurate results. This resistance to tampering delivers trustworthy outcomes that employers and testers can confidently rely on.

Hair follicle testing is a robust choice in Wasola, MO, due to its unquestionable reliability and reduced risk of tampering. Unlike urine samples, hair samples offer less opportunity for adulteration, ensuring the integrity of test results and fostering confidence in authenticity and accuracy of findings.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
