Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug screening in Silver Star, Montana. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol assessment, our expertise lies in hair analysis, with testing facilities available across all cities Nationwide capable of administering such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body may suffice. Hair analyses detect substances, including drugs, alcohol/ETG, and more specific testing options.

Recently, the preference for hair follicle drug screenings has significantly increased. This method is favored by employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts over the traditional urine tests. Organizations with strict no-drug policies, legal bodies, and those on probation turn to hair analysis. Its advantage lies in a prolonged detection period, up to 90 days, assuring an observed and tamper-proof process. Yet, for recent drug use detection, within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a comprehensive record of substances by incorporating biomarkers into the strands as they grow. When gathered near the scalp, hair can serve as an indicator of alcohol and drug use for a period of around 90 days. Hair collection is straightforward, fairly resistant to tampering, and easy to mail.

A segment of hair measuring 1.5 inches and comprising roughly 200 strands (about the size of a standard #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, ideal for initial and confirmatory tests. For EtG, additional tests, or more than 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. It's wise to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, the equivalent amount of body hair can be used. When describing head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other variations (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test sample involves four fundamental stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the introductory step where a sample is integrated into the lab’s system. This step includes confirming that the sample is sealed and transported correctly, generating an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and recording any additional information not supplied by an electronic custody chain.

Screening is a preliminary, expedient evaluation for drug substances. While a financially prudent approach to eliminate drug consumption suspicions in most cases, a positive result in Screening necessitates further verification for legal acceptability. Any samples tentatively positive in Screening require a further Confirmation step.

If a sample tests tentatively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and set for Extraction. Here, drugs are withdrawn from hair specimens at much lower concentrations than from urine or oral fluids, rendering hair analysis one of the most intricate methodologies available.

Confirmation for positive Screening results is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS processes. Any samples with tentative positive results undergo washing before Confirmation if required. The entire laboratory sequence, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited detection timeline.
  • Challenging to falsify: Manipulating a hair drug test is quite arduous, thereby enhancing result reliability.
  • Chronological data provision: The test can depict drug consumption patterns over time, not merely recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent intake: Drugs only become recognizable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug analysis is typically pricier compared to alternative testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair color and growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Commonly called "hair follicle tests," the test actually examines the hair strand, excluding the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Silver Star, MT, hair follicle testing is proving superior to urine testing. Offering more accurate detection and reliability, hair tests are less prone to manipulation. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
