In Lee, Nevada, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol testing, we've established centers nationwide, including every city, to cater to your needs. Typically requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body, these tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for specific hair examination requirements.

Lately, hair follicle drug tests have gained popularity for drug screenings. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts prefer hair tests over conventional urine tests. Zero-tolerance companies, courts, and probation initiatives choose hair testing for its extended detection capability, usually up to 90 days, with a supervised collection process that's hard to deceive. For detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has been acknowledged as a potent means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of substances by ensnaring biomarkers within the strands. When gathered near the scalp, it offers a detection timeframe of up to about three months. Hair is easy to collect, not as simple to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 hair strands (roughly the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is optimal for testing and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not present, an equivalent portion of body hair can be used. Our references to head hair denote scalp hair only. Body hair pertains to all other forms (like facial, and axillary hair).

Process Overview

The four primary steps in the lab's drug test processing are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the sample's introduction into the lab system, which includes confirming it was correctly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting any data lacking from the electronic chain of custody.

Screening involves an initial swift examination for substances of abuse. Screening is cost-efficient for negating drug use in most samples; however, any positive screen must be corroborated for legal acceptability. Samples appearing positive during Screening require subsequent confirmation.

If a sample tests positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the starting sample and prepared for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), reflecting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation for any positive screen is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. Presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation if required. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair tests identify drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a briefer detection span.
  • High difficulty to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely challenging, increasing the accuracy of results.
  • Reveals usage trends: It shows a pattern of drug consumption over time, not only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect immediate usage: Detectability in hair occurs approximately 5-7 days post-drug use.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier than alternative testing methods.
  • Variability in results: Factors like hair color and personal hair growth variations can affect drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the examination is of the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle tests to traditional urine tests in Lee, NV, the benefits become clear. Hair testing offers superior detection accuracy, capturing a longer history of drug use.

Hair follicle tests, unlike urine tests, effectively detect drug residues for up to 90 days. This span provides a reliable overview of a subject's history, highlighting its accuracy. While urine tests have shorter detection windows, hair tests offer more comprehensive data.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Lee, NV, offers a significant advantage with its extended detection period of up to 90 days. This long-term view is invaluable for employers evaluating personnel.

By revealing substance use over weeks or months, hair tests offer insights that aren't possible with shorter detection methods. Employers gain a thorough understanding of an individual's patterns, showcasing the test's crucial role in maintaining workplace standards.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Lee, NV, stands out for its tamper-resistant methodology, significantly reducing the risk of sample adulteration. Its reliability ensures unquestionable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
