Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screening services in Paradise Valley, Nevada. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol testing, our centers are available nationwide, ensuring convenient access across all cities. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is needed for testing, allowing for alcohol/ETG and other tailored screenings.

There has been an uptick in utilizing hair follicle drug tests for screening purposes in recent times. Employers, judicial entities, and substance abuse experts often opt for hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Organizations with drug-free mandates prefer these due to the extended detection span of up to 90 days and the nearly foolproof nature of the test, despite urine tests being more accurate for recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a comprehensive timeline of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the growing strand's fibers. If gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug presence for approximately three months. Collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of about 200 hair strands (about a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal quantity for screening and validation. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. It is recommended to use a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair is collectable. "Head hair" specifically denotes scalp hair. "Body hair" encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result comprises four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary step where samples are entered into a lab's system. This involves ensuring correct sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial rapid assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug use in most samples, positive results must be verified for legal admissibility. Samples showing presumptive positivity in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive in the Screening stage, additional hair is sourced from the initial specimen and prepped for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration than other methods (ex. urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening results is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are washed before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection timeframe.
  • Challenges in falsification: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, enhancing result reliability.
  • Delivers historical insights: It can indicate a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to be noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual variations in hair growth can affect drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite often being called "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair vs. Urine Testing: In Paradise Valley, NV, hair follicle testing outshines traditional urine tests concerning detection accuracy and reliability. The capacity to uncover substance use over longer periods provides a distinct advantage. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis minimizes the risks of tampering and misrepresentation, ensuring a true reflection of an individual's substance history.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window makes hair follicle testing an invaluable asset in Paradise Valley, NV. This method can reveal substance use over the last 90 days, unlike urine tests that only detect more recent usage. Employers benefit from a detailed perspective of an individual's substance track record, aiding in the decisions surrounding employment candidacy or ongoing suitability.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing in Paradise Valley, NV, minimizes the possibility of adulterated samples with hair follicle tests. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
