Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Lawnside, New Jersey. If you require a hair-based test for drugs or alcohol, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to expert. We have centers across all major cities where you can undergo a hair test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. Hair tests can detect substances like drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific options.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have gained popularity in drug testing methods. Employers, courts, and substance abuse specialists are now opting for this over the traditional urine test. They're used by workplaces with strict no-drug policies, judicial systems, and probation officers. The key advantage is its extended drug detection period, often up to 90 days, with a watched collection, making cheating nearly impossible. However, for recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a comprehensive timeline of alcohol and drug intake by capturing biomarkers within the strands of hair as they develop. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer an approximately 3-month detection period for substances. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and easy to send.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp contains 100mg of hair, which is the optimum sample amount for testing and verification. For EtG, additional checks, and/or tests surpassing 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advisable. We advise using a jeweler's scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. By head hair, we mean only the scalp hair. Body hair includes all other kinds like facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of drug testing results involves four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial steps of processing a sample in a lab system. This step verifies that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry that isn’t covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary assessment to check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient way to exclude drug use in many cases, a positive screen must be verified to be valid in legal situations. Any samples that return a presumptive positive during Screening will need another confirmation step.

When a sample shows presumptive positivity in the Screening stage, more hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), which is why performing hair drug screening is the most challenging methodology.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that indicate presumptive positivity are cleaned before confirmation if needed. The full lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is overseen under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests are capable of identifying drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which detect use over a shorter period.
  • High difficulty to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, thus yielding more precise results.
  • Historical usage data: It can illustrate a pattern of drug consumption over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Non-detection of recent usage: Drugs only become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally cost more than other drug testing methods.
  • Variability in results: Aspects like hair color and individual variations in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite levels in the hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

The superiority of hair follicle testing in Lawnside, NJ shines when compared to traditional urine tests. While urine tests provide short-term detection, hair tests offer extended periods, providing a reliable pattern of substance use. This allows for a better understanding of long-term drug habits.

Avoid loopholes that urine tests may present with hair analysis. Unlike urine, hair samples can't be easily tampered with or manipulated, ensuring their integrity and offering more reliable and credible data for evaluations, crucial in sensitive situations.

Extended Detection Window

Extended periods of drug detection elevate hair follicle testing as a preferred choice in Lawnside, NJ. While urine tests cover limited days, hair testing extends this to 90 days, giving you a comprehensive overview of an individual’s drug history over a more extended duration.

Employers benefit from long-term insight provided by hair analysis. Covering three months, this detection window proves crucial in screening potential hires or monitoring employees, maintaining workplace integrity over merely short-term assessments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Reducing the risk of sample adulteration is a significant advantage of hair follicle tests in Lawnside, NJ. Unlike other testing methods, hair samples are hard to manipulate, ensuring the integrity and reliability of drug test results by preventing common tampering tactics seen with other methods.

Combatting sample alteration and maintaining trust is easier with hair analysis. The security of the collection process guarantees dependability, which is critical in environments where accuracy and fairness in results are prioritized over compromised alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
