Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Strathmere, NJ. Whether it's a drug or alcohol test you need, we specialize in hair testing and have nationwide locations to conduct these tests. Hair samples require 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer customized testing options.

In recent years, hair follicle testing has become more prevalent for drug screening. Employers, legal systems, and substance abuse experts are opting for hair tests over urine tests. Hair testing is preferred by entities with zero-tolerance policies due to its longer detection window of up to 90 days, observed collection process, and resistance to tampering. However, for drug detection within 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is regarded as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair retains a long-term history of these substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When cut close to the scalp, hair presents a detection window of roughly 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, moderately challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with around 200 strands (similar to the girth of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the ideal amount for screening and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or assays exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for precise specimen weighing. In the absence of scalp hair, an equivalent quantity of body hair is acceptable. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair only. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test encompasses four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage where a sample is integrated into a lab’s system. This step includes ensuring the sample was sealed and sent correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and carrying out any extra data entry that is not part of an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an early, rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient approach to eliminate drug use in most samples, a positive outcome necessitates confirmation to be admissible legally. Any specimens presumed positive in Screening must undergo subsequent confirmation.

In the event a sample is presumably positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug screening is among the most challenging methods to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are washed before confirmation as required. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests with a briefer detection window.
  • Difficulty to falsify: It is exceedingly challenging to falsify a hair drug test, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical data provision: It provides a chronological pattern of drug use over time, beyond merely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier compared to alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Frequently termed "hair follicle tests", the actual examination analyzes the hair strand and does not involve the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing provides a superior alternative to urine testing in Strathmere, NJ. Unlike traditional methods, hair testing boasts higher detection accuracy and reliability, making it the preferred choice for employers and individuals. Hair tests offer a broader detection window, with results that are harder to alter, thanks to the observed collection technique and resistance to tampering.

When juxtaposing hair and urine tests, the former stands out due to its comprehensive approach. Hair testing offers unparalleled insight into an individual's substance use over an extended period, while urine tests offer limited insights, typically covering only recent use. The robust nature of hair testing sets it apart.

Extended Detection Window

In Strathmere, NJ, hair follicle testing excels in extended detection periods. It allows observation of drug use history for up to 90 days, giving employers a thorough understanding of an individual’s substance habits. This extended window surpasses traditional tests, offering clearer evidence of past use.

The extensive time frame covered by hair testing presents employers with a comprehensive substance use history. This thorough screening provides peace of mind in hiring decisions, ensuring that potential employees align with company drug policies resiliently over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing significantly minimizes tampering risks in Strathmere, NJ. Unlike other methods, the observed collection process of hair samples makes it nearly impossible to alter results. This rigorous collection method ensures reliability and prevents adulterated results, which are more common in other testing forms.

The integrity of the hair test process upholds its reliability by ensuring that samples are collected securely and remain untampered. This secure method provides employers with unquestionable data, making it a preferred choice in scenarios demanding scrupulous and foolproof testing protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
