Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis in Vernon, New Jersey. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol assessment, we specialize in hair testing and offer this service across all cities nationwide. Generally, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the scalp or body suffices. Hair assessments can detect substances like drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be custom-tailored for specific analysis.

Recently, hair follicle drug screenings have become more prevalent for drug testing. Various employers, legal systems, and substance abuse specialists now prefer hair analysis over traditional urine tests. This method is preferred by those upholding strict anti-drug policies, including courts and probation services. The primary advantage lies in its extended detection span, up to 90 days, its supervised collection, and its resistance to manipulation, though for recent substance use detection, within the past 5 days, urinalysis is still the most precise method.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations have come to be recognized as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged account of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the progressively growing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer up to nearly a 3-month detection interval for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for evaluation and validation. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or assessments beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advised. We suggest weighing the specimen on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not accessible, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be obtained. When referring to head hair, we mean scalp hair solely. Body hair pertains to all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases involved in the laboratory treatment of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the initial handling of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This encompasses confirming that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and executing any further data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails a preliminary quick check for drugs of misuse. Even though Screening is a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires verification to be admissible in court. Any samples that are initially positive in Screening necessitate a subsequent confirmation.

If a sample is initially positive in the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are separated from hair at a much lower concentration than in other methods (ex. urine or oral fluid), which is why hair substance screening is the most challenging methodology to accomplish.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is carried out via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All initially positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests that possess a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical information: It can present a pattern of drug usage over time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It takes approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual disparities in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Vernon, NJ, hair follicle testing emerges as superior when compared to traditional urine analysis. One of its major benefits is the extended detection period, up to 90 days, offering a window into prolonged substance use history that urine tests cannot provide. Hair tests also showcase higher accuracy in detecting chronic use, ensuring a reliable assessment of an individual's drug consumption patterns.

Employers and professionals seeking more accurate drug screening favor hair follicle tests due to their unmatched reliability. These tests capture a broader history of drug use, identifying regular use patterns that can remain undetected by shorter detection windows of urine tests. This superior accuracy positions hair analysis as a trusted choice in Vernon, NJ, providing essential insights for informed decision-making.

Extended Detection Window

One of the key strengths of hair follicle analysis in Vernon, NJ, is its extensive detection window. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
