Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis in Whitesboro, New Jersey. For those requiring hair drug or alcohol assessments, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this method, with centers across all cities Nationwide to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body suffices. Hair testing can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other customized options.

Over recent years, more drug tests are being conducted via hair follicle analysis. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts often prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests cater to employers with strict no-drug-use policies, judicial systems, and individuals on probation. The key advantage is a longer detection window, up to 90 days, and an observed collection method that is difficult to tamper with. However, for detecting drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

The utilization of hair testing is highly regarded as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within its growing fibers. When collected near the scalp, it offers a detection timeframe of approximately three months for alcohol and other substances. It’s easy to gather, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

Acquiring a 1.5-inch sample consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the girth of a #2 pencil) near the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the optimal quantity for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or evaluations over 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advisable. We advise measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn’t available, an equivalent amount of body hair can be collected. The term head hair strictly denotes scalp hair. Body hair indicates all other hair variants (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key procedures in the lab processing of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes integrating the specimen into a lab’s database. This step involves ensuring the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accession Number), and finalizing any outstanding data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening serves as a preliminary rapid drug abuse test. Although economically efficient to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive outcome necessitates confirmation for court validity. Samples with presumed positivity in Screening require an additional confirmation.

When a specimen indicates presumed positivity during Screening, extra hair is retrieved for Extraction. At this juncture, drugs are removed from hair at substantially lower concentrations compared to other methods (like urine or oral fluid), underscoring hair drug screening's complexity.

Confirmation of any positive screening findings is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumed positivity undergo washing before confirmation if required. The laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike the shorter detection span of urine tests.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is quite challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides usage history: It can show patterns of drug use over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent intake: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Despite being commonly named "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Whitesboro, NJ: Hair testing provides superior detection accuracy compared to traditional urine tests. It offers enhanced reliability, picking up drug usage more effectively over a broader period. This method is less prone to tampering, giving employers confidence in their drug screening processes, compared to the less secure urine tests which can sometimes be manipulated.

Extended Detection Window in Whitesboro, NJ offers a significant advantage with hair follicle testing. This method traces drug usage up to 90 days, giving a comprehensive substance history of an individual. It's beneficial for employers seeking to understand long-term behaviors rather than recent practices obscured by the short detection range of urine tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
