At this juncture, substances are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations than in other approaches (e.g., urine or saliva), underscoring the complexity of hair drug analysis.
Verification of any presumptive positive during screening is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples flagged as potentially positive are cleansed before confirmation when needed. The entire procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation coupled with accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 benchmarks.

The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed,and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
