In Bear Grass, North Carolina, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Specializing in precise hair drug and alcohol tests, our nationwide network ensures easy access to this advanced testing option, requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair. The tests identify substances like drugs and alcohol with customizable options.

Hair follicle testing has gained popularity for drug testing. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals often choose it over standard urine tests due to a zero-tolerance policy on drug use. With a detection window of up to 90 days, this method is accurate and difficult to alter. However, urine tests are more precise for recent usage within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly viewed as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use for approximately a 3-month period. Hair is straightforward to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch hair sample, comprising about 200 strands near the scalp (approximately the girth of a #2 pencil), yields 100mg, ideal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It is recommended to weigh the sample with a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. 'Head hair' refers specifically to scalp hair, while 'body hair' includes facial, axillary, and other types of hair.

Process Overview

There are four primary steps in the lab processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning starts with initial sample processing into the lab's system. This step confirms that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any additional data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a low-cost method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed to be legally admissible. All samples with presumptive positives in Screening require further confirmation.

If Screening suggests a positive result, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction phase. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The whole lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and conformity to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a briefer detection period.
  • High tamper resistance: It is quite challenging to deceive a hair drug test, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Offers historical insights: The test furnishes a timeline of drug usage over a stretch, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify immediate use: It usually takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth variations can impact metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Though often called "hair follicle tests", they analyze the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair Follicle Testing Surpasses Urine Testing in Bear Grass, NC due to its comprehensive detection capabilities. While urine tests are limited in scope, hair tests provide an extensive view of substance use, accurately identifying drug traces long after they are consumed, thereby offering superior detection accuracy and reliability in analysis results.

The benefits of hair testing over urine testing are unmistakable in Bear Grass, NC. Dilution and adulteration common in urine samples do not affect hair tests, ensuring reliable results. Employers and authorities could rely on hair tests to monitor compliance with zero-tolerance drug policies effectively.

Extended Detection Window

Experience the Extended Detection Window of hair follicle testing in Bear Grass, NC. With a span reaching up to 90 days, hair tests offer a panoramic view of an individual’s drug use history, significantly surpassing the limited detection period of other testing methods. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
