Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Holly Springs, North Carolina. If you require a drug or alcohol analysis via hair testing, we are the specialists with locations across all cities nationwide capable of conducting these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized options.

In the past few years, drug testing frequently includes hair follicle tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts prefer hair tests over standard urine ones. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probationers rely on hair follicle tests. The main advantage is the extended detection scope of up to 90 days, collected with supervision, making it nearly impossible to tamper. However, for recent drug use, within 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extensive timeline of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the growing strands. Collected near the scalp, hair can offer up to a 3-month detection duration for these substances. It's easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the girth of a #2 pencil) from the scalp, yields 100mg, which is the optimum quantity for testing. For EtG, additional tests, and assessments beyond 10 panels, a quantity of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for precision. Should scalp hair not be accessible, equivalent body hair may suffice. References to head hair denote only scalp hair. Body hair comprises all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Summary

The laboratory drug testing workflow encompasses four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves introducing the sample into the lab’s system, confirming proper sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting any additional data absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs an initial examination for drug traces. Though cost-efficient for eliminating drug presence in most samples, confirmed results are requisite for legal admission. Positive screening necessitates additional confirmation.

Upon a presumptive positive in Screening, extra hair is taken from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are removed from hair at lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), underlying the complexity of hair drug testing.

Confirmation follows any positive screen via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Prior to confirmation, all presumptive positives are washed as required. The entire process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests detect drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is very difficult, ensuring greater accuracy of results.
  • Tracks historical usage: Offers insight into patterns of drug use over time, not just immediate use.

Challenges:

  • Lacks recent usage detection: Drugs become detectable in hair typically after 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite common referencing as "hair follicle tests", the actual test examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Holly Springs, NC
Hair follicle testing offers undeniable advantages over traditional urine testing. Unlike urine tests, which detect only recent substance use, hair tests provide superior detection over a longer range—up to 90 days—ensuring higher accuracy and reliability. This makes it an ideal choice for employers enforcing strict no-drug policies.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Holly Springs, NC
Hair follicle testing provides an extensive detection window of up to 90 days, far surpassing the timeframe of urine tests. This lengthy period allows employers to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual's substance history, crucial for making informed decisions about potential hires or current employees.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method
