In this step, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is the most challenging method to undertake.
Confirmation of any positive screening result is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that test presumptive positive are washed before confirmation as necessary. Every aspect of the lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.
