Here, substances are isolated from hair at lower concentrations relative to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), contributing to the complexity of hair drug assessment.
GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques are employed to confirm any positive findings from the Screening phase. Presumed positive samples are washed before confirmation as required. This entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is validated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed,and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
