Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Campbellstown, Ohio. For those in need of a hair drug or alcohol analysis, we specialize in this service and have centers across all cities Nationwide that are equipped to carry out hair tests. Generally, hair from the crown or body can be used, provided there is 1.5 to 2 inches available. Tests can be tailored for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific substances.

Over recent years, hair follicle drug testing has become increasingly prevalent. Many businesses, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts prefer hair drug tests over standard urine tests. Used by employers enforcing strict drug policies, courts, and probation cases, these tests offer the advantage of a longer detection timeframe, up to 90 days, alongside the reliability of an observed collection. Nonetheless, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the go-to option due to their accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of alcohol and drug usage by sequestering biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When taken close to the scalp, hair can provide a detection timeframe of up to around 90 days for alcohol and drug substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient for transportation.

A 1.5-inch cutting consisting of around 200 hair strands (similar to a #2 pencil's diameter) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or screenings exceeding 10 panels, a sample amount of 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample is recommended. If scalp hair cannot be provided, a comparable amount of body hair may be utilized. When addressing head hair, we are specifically mentioning scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (such as facial, armpit, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory handling of drug test results encompasses four core steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s workflow, which includes ensuring the sample’s correct sealing and shipment, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic custody chain system.

Screening provides a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of concern. While screening is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use in most cases, any positive results require verification for judicial acceptance. Samples that test preliminarily positive in screening require additional confirmation.

For any sample showing preliminary positivity in the Screening phase, additional hair is retrieved from the original sample for Extraction preparation. During Extraction, drugs are recovered from hair at notably lower concentrations than alternative methods (such as urine or saliva), which is why hair drug screening is considered the most intricate method.

Confirmation of any positive screen outcome is accomplished via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples identified as presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation as per requirements. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug exposure up to 90 days prior, unlike urine assessments which have a briefer detection period.
  • Challenge to falsify: Altering results of a hair drug test is notably difficult, which enhances result accuracy.
  • Offers historical utilization data: It can reveal a timeline of drug consumption over an extended duration as opposed to merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: Drug presence may require 5-7 days to become identifiable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically cost more compared to other drug testing practices.
  • Result variability: Distinctions like hair color and individual hair growth differences may impact the presence of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly known as "hair follicle tests", the test examines the hair strand instead of the follicle under the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing drug testing methods in Campbellstown, OH, hair follicle testing clearly surpasses traditional urine assays. Its extended detection scope and superior accuracy make it a preferred choice for many. Unlike urine tests, which are limited to recent consumption, hair testing reveals a broader drug usage timeline, showcasing its substantial reliability in monitoring substance habits.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Campbellstown, OH offers an extensive detection window, often covering up to 90 days. This robust longevity provides employers with a detailed overview of substance history for applicants or employees. Covering a wide range of drug use, it enables a more informed assessment of candidates' long-term substance behaviors, contributing to sound decision-making in the hiring process.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Campbellstown, OH, hair follicle tests significantly curb the chances of sample tampering, ensuring the integrity and validity of results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
