Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair analysis, with facilities in all cities Nationwide that can conduct such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer specialized hair analysis options.

Over the years, drug testing methods have increasingly included hair follicle drug tests. Numerous employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug-use rules, courts, and individuals on probation utilize hair follicle testing. A significant advantage of hair follicle drug tests is their prolonged detection window for drug use, typically up to 90 days, gathered through an observed collection process, making them nearly foolproof. Nonetheless, for drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective means for uncovering drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extensive record of alcohol and other drugs by encapsulating biomarkers within the hair strand’s fibrous growth. When gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal a timeframe of up to approximately three months for detecting alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to collect, relatively resistant to tampering, and easy to mail.

A 1.5-inch snippet consisting of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) from nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the preferred sample size for tests and verifications. For EtG additions and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a quantity of 150mg is advisable. It is suggested to weigh the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent measure of body hair may be used. In discussing head hair, we refer solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other variants (facial, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

The procedure in the laboratory for producing a drug test result encompasses Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary handling of a sample into the lab’s framework. This part ensures the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data recording absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening pertains to an initial rapid assessment for illicit drugs. While Screening is a cost-efficient method to negate drug presence in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for legal acceptability. Any samples preliminarily positive in Screening must undergo a subsequent confirmation.

If Screening indicates a sample as preliminarily positive, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are withdrawn from hair at much lower concentrations than by other means (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screenings a challenge to execute.

Verification of any positive screening is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumed positive samples are washed before confirmation if indicated. The complete laboratory path from Accessioning to Confirmation is checked under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO/IEC 17025 certification.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug screens can identify drug intake for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which cover a shorter period.
  • Immunity to deception: A hair drug test is hard to falsify, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Reveals historical usage: It outlines a drug use trajectory over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapability to identify recent intake: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically come at a higher cost than alternative testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair pigmentation and personal differences in hair growth can influence the presence of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine tests in Franklin Furnace, OH, the former stands out due to its superior detection capabilities. Hair testing offers enhanced accuracy and reliably reveals substance use over a prolonged window. This method provides more insight compared to urine tests, making it a reliable choice for drug detection.

The comprehensive detection afforded by hair testing surpasses the limited span of urine tests. For employers seeking thorough screening methods, hair follicle testing offers a clear advantage in identifying long-term substance use.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Franklin Furnace, OH, allows for the detection of drug use over an extended duration, up to 90 days. This capability gives employers a detailed view of an individual's substance history, providing thorough insight into past behaviors. The prolonged detection affords a more complete picture of substance use.

By using hair follicle testing, employers gain access to a wider timeframe of potential drug-related activities, promoting informed decision-making. The extended window proves invaluable in assessing long-term substance use patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
