In Indian Springs, Ohio, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in this field, with centers in every city nationwide to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. Hair tests are versatile, capable of detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other specific substances.

Recently, the practice of drug testing has increasingly adopted hair follicle drug tests as a standard. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts often require hair drug testing over traditional urine tests. These hair follicle tests appeal to companies with strict drug policies, legal entities, and those under probation. A key advantage is the extended drug use detection window of up to 90 days, making tampering highly unlikely. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the most accurate for recent drug use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective technique for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It records prolonged tracking of substances by locking biomarkers within the strands' fibers as they grow. Hair gathered near the scalp can depict nearly a 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drugs. Its collection is straightforward, relatively hard to falsify, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch lock containing approximately 200 strands (resembling a #2 pencil in size) near the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or analyses beyond 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. Using a jeweler's scale to weigh the sample is recommended. If scalp hair is not obtainable, a corresponding amount of body hair is permissible. References to head hair imply only scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in the laboratory assessment of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary handling of a specimen within a lab's system. This includes ensuring the sample's seal and shipping were intact, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional required data entry if not handled by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening gives an initial examination for drugs. Although it's economical for excluding drug use in most specimens, a positive screen mandates confirmation to be court-admissible. Any samples with presumptive positives in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

For samples flagged as presumptively positive during Screening, extra hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are withdrawn from hair at much lower concentrations as compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most challenging technique.

Confirmation of any positive screen outcome is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation, as required. The entire process, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Unlike urine tests with shorter windows, hair assessments can find drug usage as far back as 90 days.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Hair drug testing resists cheating, which enhances result accuracy.
  • Historical overview: It indicates a drug usage pattern over time rather than immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of noticing recent use: Drugs need roughly 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments tend to be pricier than alternative drug testing routes.
  • Response variability: Differences such as hair color and personal hair growth rates might influence metabolite concentration.

Note: Commonly dubbed "hair follicle tests," these tests examine hair strands, not the follicles beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing Outperforms Urine Testing: Hair follicle tests in Indian Springs, OH offer unparalleled benefits over traditional urine tests. Not only do they provide superior detection accuracy and reliability, but the findings are also resistant to tampering and are collected through an observed process, eliminating substitution possibilities and ensuring integrity.

Extended Detection Window

With a window of detection spanning up to 90 days, hair follicle testing in Indian Springs, OH provides a panoramic view of an individual's substance use history. This extensive timeframe helps employers gain insight into applicants or employees' long-term behavior, rather than just fleeting moments, making it a robust solution for comprehensive screening.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle drug tests in Indian Springs, OH reduce the risk of tampering, providing unquestionable results. Unlike urine samples, which are prone to adulteration, hair tests are collected in an observed process to maintain sample integrity, assuring employers and authorities of the reliability of the data.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
