Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle analysis for drugs and alcohol in La Croft, Ohio. If you're in need of such a test, we specialize in hair analysis and have locations in cities nationwide to assist you. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is needed. The tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored to specific needs.

The inclination towards using hair follicle drug tests for screening has increased in recent years. Employers, legal systems, and substance misuse experts are shifting to this method over traditional urine tests. It's favored by zero-tolerance employers, legal institutions, and probation officers. Its advantage lies in a longer drug detection window, up to 90 days, and is conducted under direct supervision, making it highly tamper-resistant. However, for recent drug use detection within 5 days, urine tests remain the most effective.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is currently regarded as an effective method for discovering drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of alcohol and drug presence by capturing biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When collected near the scalp, hair can indicate a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample of hair measuring 1.5 inches and consisting of approximately 200 strands (comparable in size to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, an ideal amount for screening and validation. For EtG, additional panels, or tests beyond 10 panels, a sample size of 150mg is suggested. The specimen should be weighed on a jeweler's scale for precision. Should scalp hair not be obtainable, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair refers to all other types like facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory workflow for processing a drug test outcome involves four major steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample is initially processed into the lab's system, which involves verifying proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random Laboratory Accessioning Number (LAN), and handling any extra data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening acts as a preliminary rapid evaluation for substance misuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method to identify drug consumption in most samples, positive results require confirmation for legal admissibility. All samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

If a sample is deemed presumptively positive in the Screening phase, extra hair is extracted from the initial sample for preparation in the Extraction stage. In this phase, the concentration of drugs is extracted from hair at much lower levels than in other testing methods (like urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug testing is the most complex technique to execute.

Any positive results from Screening are confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. Every presumptive positive sample undergoes washing before confirmation as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning through to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation as well as ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have shorter detection periods.
  • Difficulty in falsification: Cheating on a hair drug test is notably hard, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Tracks historical usage: It offers a pattern of substance use over a duration, not just recent episodes.

Limitations:

  • Detects non-recent use: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become observable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is generally pricier compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Possible result variations: Hair color and individual hair growth differences may influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Despite being frequently called "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing detection accuracy in La Croft, OH, hair follicle tests outperform traditional urine tests. Hair samples capture drug use over a more extended period, offering superior detection capabilities that urine tests cannot match.

This broader detection scope provides a robust overview of an individual's substance use, making hair testing a favored option for employers with strict drug policies.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in La Croft, OH, spans up to 90 days, giving employers insights into long-term substance habits that traditional tests might miss. This comprehensive view aids in informed hiring or employee retention decisions.

This method of testing serves as a preventative measure, deterring potential substance misuse through awareness of rigorous and long-lasting detection capabilities.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

With hair follicle drug testing in La Croft, OH, the risk of tampering is greatly minimized. This method of sample collection is less prone to adulteration, ensuring the integrity of the test results remains intact.

Employers and organizations can trust in this test's robustness, knowing that the outcomes are a true reflection of an individual’s substance exposure over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
