Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Lewisville, Ohio. Whether you require testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise in hair analysis is unmatched, with centers nationwide ready to administer tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Our hair tests are capable of analyzing substances such as drugs, alcohol/ETG, and customized options.

Hair follicle drug testing has grown more prevalent recently. Employers, courts, and substance abuse experts increasingly opt for hair tests over standard urine tests. This method serves entities with strict drug policies, judiciary needs, and probation requirements due to a superior detection period of up to 90 days and robust collection integrity. However, for recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessment is now acknowledged as an effective technique for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a lengthy record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the structure of the hair as it grows. When obtained near the scalp, hair offers roughly a 3-month period for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to collect, challenging to manipulate, and straightforward to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches from around 200 hairs (akin to a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp will provide 100mg, the perfect amount for screening and confirming tests. For EtG, additional tests, or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the hair is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample is recommended. If head hair is unavailable, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be gathered. 'Head hair' pertains specifically to scalp hair. 'Body hair' encompasses all other hair types (facial, armpit, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug test outcome in the laboratory consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary handling of a sample upon entering a lab’s system. This process verifies proper sealing and shipping, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any remaining data entry beyond what is provided by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening entails a swift review for abused substances. Although Screening is an economical approach for initially ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples deemed presumptively positive must undergo further confirmation.

When a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the outset specimen for the Extraction phase. During this stage, drugs are derived from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug screening ranks as the most complex methodology to administer.

Confirmation of positive screening findings is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Necessary presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can reveal drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine assessments with a briefer detection span.
  • Hard to deceive: Hair drug evaluations are extremely challenging to falsify, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Reveals usage history: It outlines drug utilization patterns over time, beyond just the present use.

Limitations:

  • Unable to determine recent use: Drugs typically require 5-7 days before becoming traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug examinations frequently incur higher costs than other testing strategies.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and unique hair growth patterns can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", this test analyzes the strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Lewisville, OH
The transition from urine to hair follicle drug testing is supported by distinct advantages in detection and fidelity. Hair tests encompass a longer observation window, precisely pinpointing drug presence, unlike urine tests that have shorter detection spans. This superior sensitivity guarantees that substance use isn’t masked by temporary abstinence.

Employers and professionals favor hair follicle testing for its consistent, counterfeit-resistant nature. Compared to traditional urine tests, hair analyses diminish opportunities for tampering, providing reliable data. This advancement enhances workplace safety, promoting compliance with zero-tolerance policies more effectively in places like Lewisville, OH.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Lewisville, OH
One of the pivotal benefits of hair follicle testing is its extensive detection range of up to 90 days. This prolonged period grants employers insight beyond short-term abstinence, painting a holistic picture of an employee’s or candidate's substance history. In Lewisville, OH, this comprehensive oversight aids in making informed workplace decisions.

Focusing purely on the past few days can mislead an employer's understanding of substance use patterns. Hair follicle tests provide a timeline that encompasses months, aiding in discerning sustained habits. For rigorous workplace environments and monitoring, this test's extended window is an unmatched asset.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
