Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Murray City, Ohio. If a hair or alcohol drug test is required, our expertise in hair testing is unparalleled, with testing facilities established in cities nationwide prepared to conduct tests. A sample typically requires 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or body hair. We offer analyses for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or customized hair testing solutions.

Recently, drug testing practices have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. Many workplaces, judicial bodies, and substance abuse specialists now prefer hair drug testing over traditional urine tests. It is particularly used by employers enforcing strict no-drug policies, judicial scenarios, and individuals on probation. The key advantage is its expanded detection period, typically reaching up to 90 days, collected under direct supervision, and is nearly impossible to manipulate. However, to test for usage within the last five days, urine tests remain the most precise choice.

What it is, How it works

The application of hair testing has become recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as an extended archive of alcohol and drug use by ensnaring biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair shaft. When sampled near the scalp, hair can offer up to an approximately 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to gather, relatively challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches comprising about 200 hair strands (resembling the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for evaluation and verification. For EtG, additional items, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not present, a comparable quantity of body hair can be acquired. When mentioning head hair, we specifically refer to scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other types of hair (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The four principal phases in the laboratory treatment of a drug test result encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial reception of a sample into a laboratory's system. This process involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not given by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial rapid assessment for drugs of misuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug usage in the majority of samples, a positive screen must be verified to be permissible in court. Any samples that are tentatively positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample is tentatively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All tentatively positive samples are washed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Sustained detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a briefer detection period.
  • Challenge in deception: It is extremely challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, leading to more reliable results.
  • Provides chronological data: It can outline a pattern of drug usage over an extended duration, rather than only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become identifiable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing methodologies.
  • Variability in outcomes: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Even though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis itself scrutinizes the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When compared to urine tests in Murray City, OH, hair follicle testing offers superior detection capabilities. While urine tests might indicate recent drug use, hair tests provide a more comprehensive history, revealing up to 90 days of substance intake. This makes hair testing an invaluable tool for employers seeking a thorough assessment over traditional urine testing methods.

Extended Detection Window

In Murray City, OH, extended detection windows offered by hair follicle testing allow employers to review an individual's substance history over a significant period, sometimes up to 90 days. This in-depth examination surpasses that of other testing methods, providing a complete overview of a candidate or employee's long-term drug use.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Murray City, OH, provide a tamper-resistant solution, minimizing risks of test adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
