In Reno, Ohio, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Our expertise lies in hair testing for both drugs and alcohol, with accessible locations available nationwide. For most tests, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the head or body is necessary. These tests can screen for various substances, including drugs and alcohol, and offer customized options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become increasingly popular for drug screening. It is often preferred over traditional urine tests by employers and courts enforcing strict drug-free policies. Hair tests are advantageous due to their extended detection window, covering up to 90 days, their observed collection process, and the difficulty of tampering with results. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the most reliable for recent drug use (within 5 days).

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become recognized as a formidable means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. By capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the strand as it grows, hair offers a comprehensive timeline of alcohol and drug use. When sourced near the scalp, hair can deliver a detection timeframe reaching roughly 3 months for alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively immune to tampering, and convenient for transportation.

A 1.5-inch portion comprising around 200 hair strands (approximating the girth of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, serving as the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, enhancements, or analyses exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the hair sample is advisable. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for measurement is recommended. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar quantity of body hair may be used. When head hair is cited, it solely pertains to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases entailed in lab processing for drug test results are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the sample's initial integration into a lab's database. This phase encompasses confirmation that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and accomplishing any supplemental data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody framework.

Screening represents a preliminary rapid assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening cost-effectively excludes drug usage for most samples, confirming a positive screen is requisite for judicial admissibility. Samples presumptively positive in Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

Upon a presumptive positive outcome in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. This stage entails extracting drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than alternate methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug screening poses the most challenging methodology.

Positive screening confirmation involves GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo necessary washes before confirmation. The entire lab process, from Accessioning through Confirmation, is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug consumption up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have diminished detection durations.
  • Cheating difficulty: Evading a hair drug test is extremely tough, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It provides an overview of drug consumption over time, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs than alternate testing modalities.
  • Result variation: Aspects like hair color and individual hair growth discrepancies can impact the concentration of drug metabolites within hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, excluding the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers distinct advantages over urine tests in Reno, OH. Its superior detection capabilities provide unmatched accuracy in identifying substance use. Unlike urine tests with shorter detection periods, hair testing absorbs and retains drug traces for up to 90 days. This method delivers robust and reliable results that are invaluable to employers and professionals seeking comprehensive screening.

Extended Detection Window

In Reno, OH, the extended detection window of hair follicle testing offers a significant advantage. This method can reveal drug use history up to 90 days prior, offering a far-reaching snapshot of an individual's substance use. For employers, it presents a reliable way to assess an employee's substance history, providing clarity and confidence in their hiring and management decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Reno, OH ensures trustworthy outcomes. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
