Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Sardis, Ohio. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing with testing centers Nationwide capable of conducting these evaluations. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head or body can be used. These tests screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other specialized hair testing needs.

Increased utilization of hair follicle drug testing has been seen in recent years. This method is often preferred by employers, legal entities, and substance abuse experts over standard urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are ideal for employers with strict drug policies and are commonly used by courts and probationary services. The main advantage is the extended detection window of drug use, usually up to 90 days, gathered in a monitored setting, minimizing the chances of tampering. That being said, urine tests remain the superior choice for detecting very recent drug use within a 5-day window.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessment has increasingly become recognized as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair provides a prolonged timeline for alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair. If collected near the scalp, it can offer up to a three-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. The collection of hair is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample with about 200 hair strands (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the preferred sample size for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or screens beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be used, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we are exclusively referring to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four integral stages in the laboratory procedures of a drug test are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the preliminary processing of a sample into the lab’s framework, ensuring the sample is properly sealed and sent, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing necessary additional data input absent from an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening entails an initial rapid assessment for drugs. Though Screening is a cost-efficient approach to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive finding needs verification to be acceptable in legal contexts. Samples that appear positive in Screening require follow-up confirmation.

If a sample is positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original specimen for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are retrieved from hair at a lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex methodology.

Confirmation of any positive result from screening is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive are washed before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated following both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a briefer detection period.
  • Hard to deceive: It's extremely hard to falsify a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides usage history: It delivers an overview of drug consumption over a time frame, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent intake: It requires approximately 5-7 days for substances to be detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Results variability: Variables such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact the amount of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Even though commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand and not the follicle underneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing has become increasingly favored over traditional urine tests in Sardis, OH, due to its extensive detection capabilities. Hair tests offer superior accuracy and reliability, detecting substances long after use. This method surpasses urine tests by not only being tamper-resistant but providing a broader historical insight into drug use.
Employers and professionals frequently choose hair over urine tests because of its longer detection period and precision,

  • Effective against cheating
  • Greater time window for substance detection
  • More reliable outcomes

Extended Detection Window

In Sardis, OH, hair follicle testing reveals drug use over an extended period, providing employers with a full account of a candidate's or employee's substance history. This method covers usage up to 90 days prior, rendering it invaluable for pre-employment screening and maintaining workplace safety.
Employers seeking comprehensive substance histories benefit enormously from hair analysis. This method ensures informed decisions are made by offering the full picture of past drug use, invaluable for long-term assessments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Sardis, OH, hair follicle tests minimize the chance of sample tampering, guaranteeing reliable results. The method of collection makes it challenging for individuals to alter or falsify outcomes, thereby providing a higher level of testing integrity.
Compared to other methods, hair tests are less susceptible to deception, ensuring the end results are trustworthy. For those seeking foolproof testing processes, hair analysis stands out due to its resistance to any form of compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
