In Scott, Ohio, Accredited Drug Testing provides exhaustive hair follicle drug testing services. For those in need of hair drug or alcohol analysis, we specialize in such testing and operate centers across all cities nationwide. Typically, a sample requires 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or cater to specific hair testing demands.

Over recent years, the method of drug testing increasingly incorporates hair follicle analysis. A growing number of employers, judicial entities, and substance abuse experts prefer it over conventional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are favored by zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probationary programs, primarily because they boast an extended detection period of up to 90 days, are collected under supervision, and present substantial challenges to circumvent. Despite their benefits, when pinpointing drug use within the prior 5 days, urine tests maintain their precedence in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. By capturing biomarkers in the strands' fibers, hair offers a comprehensive history of substance use. When clipped close to the scalp, hair can reflect a detection span of around three months for alcohol and other drugs. Its collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (resembling the size of a #2 pencil) adjacent to the scalp should provide 100mg of hair, which is the perfect quantity for evaluations and validations. For EtG, additional testing, or assessments surpassing 10 panels, 150mg of the hair sample is advisable. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen is recommended. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable amount of body hair is acceptable. Our reference to head hair pertains only to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial and underarm hair).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for assessing a drug test consists of four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves integrating a sample into a laboratory’s system from the outset. This step involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and mailed, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry omitted by an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening conducts an initial assessment for substances. Though Screening is an economical procedure for eliminating drug usage in most samples, a positive result must be verified for it to hold up in court. Samples deemed presumptive in Screening require additional confirmation.

If Screening implies a positive result, further specimen hair is used for Extraction preparation. This process extracts drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), thereby making hair drug analysis the most challenging procedure to execute.

Confirmation for any positive test result is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumed positive samples are cleaned before confirmation, as necessary. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use for periods extending up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a briefer detection span.
  • Challenging to evade: Evasion of a hair drug test is highly unlikely, increasing the accuracy of the results.
  • Supplies usage history: It delivers a historical record of substance usage over an extended timeline, rather than just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: It requires about 5-7 days for drugs to surface in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug evaluations are pricier than other testing methodologies.
  • Result fluctuation: Influences such as hair color and individual differences in hair development can alter the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Often labeled as "hair follicle tests," the procedure actually examines the hair strand and excludes the scalp-rooted hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is increasingly preferred over urine testing in Scott, OH. Superiority lies in their longer detection window and enhanced accuracy. Unlike urine tests, which offer a short-term view, hair tests provide insights up to 90 days, avoiding potential test evasion.

The meticulous nature of hair analysis reduces the chance of error. Given the extensive window of detection and the difficulty of result tampering, hair testing offers a reliable choice for employers seeking robust drug testing solutions.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle tests in Scott, OH provides employers with a comprehensive look at substance use. Capable of identifying drug presence for up to 90 days, these tests grant a more detailed substance history.

Employers benefit from this broad view, making informed decisions about an individual's suitability. This in-depth analysis highlights patterns of behavior, offering a clearer picture of long-term substance use.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Scott, OH, hair follicle tests offer a tamper-resistant method of drug testing. Reliability is emphasized as these tests significantly reduce the risk of adulteration, ensuring the delivery of unquestionable results.

Unlike other testing methods that might allow tampering, hair analysis is collected under supervision and provides a safeguard against manipulation. This ensures that the results are genuine and reflect true substance usage patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
