In South Canal, Ohio, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. If you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair analysis ensures accurate results, with testing facilities available in every major city across the United States. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown or body hair can be used, and these tests can screen for a wide range of substances, including drugs and alcohol/ETG, or be tailored to specific requirements.

Hair follicle drug testing has become increasingly common for assessing drug use, replacing traditional urine tests in various settings. Employers with strict no-drug policies, legal systems, and probation officers now prefer hair tests. They offer a significantly longer detection window of up to 90 days, involve a supervised collection process, and are resistant to tampering. However, for detecting recent drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most reliable option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective resource for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended-term record of alcohol and drug intake by encasing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair shaft. When harvested near the scalp, hair can deliver a detection timeframe of up to about three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and is convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising roughly 200 hair strands (about the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screening and verification. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or panels beyond 10, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample. In case scalp hair is unobtainable, an equal quantity of body hair can be amassed. When discussing head hair, it refers exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other varieties of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in the laboratory processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the foundational processing of a sample into a lab’s framework. This procedure verifies that the specimen was correctly sealed and sent, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplemental data input missing from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening comprises an initial rapid examination for drug abuse. While Screening is an economical means to negate drug usage in the majority of samples, a positive screen must be validated to be valid in a legal context. Any samples that are preliminarily positive in Screening require an additional confirmation.

Should a sample test preliminarily positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. At this point, drugs are extracted from hair at a notably lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex method to undertake.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation as required. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection interval: Hair drug testing can identify drug use for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests which feature a briefer detection period.
  • Difficulty to falsify: It is exceedingly hard to manipulate a hair drug test, leading to more reliable results.
  • Offers historical insight: It can furnish a consumption trend over time, not merely recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Detecting drugs in hair typically requires 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than other drug testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can affect drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the examination itself assesses the hair shaft and not the subterranean hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In South Canal, OH, hair follicle testing offers distinct advantages over traditional urine tests. One key benefit is the increased detection accuracy. While urine tests identify recent drug use, hair tests can detect long-term patterns, providing a more comprehensive analysis of substance history. This reliability makes hair follicle testing the preferred choice for many organizations seeking a thorough evaluation of drug use.

Compared to urine testing, hair follicle evaluations in South Canal, OH, provide enhanced reliability and accuracy. The ability to track drug use over a more extended period makes it a superior option for thorough screenings. Hair testing is favored in environments with stringent drug-free policies, ensuring compliance and reducing instances of drug-related incidents.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in South Canal, OH, is renowned for its extended detection window, up to 90 days. This capability enables employers to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual's substance use history. By revealing drug use over a more prolonged period, hair tests offer a holistic view of patterns that short-term testing methods might miss, thus enhancing evaluation accuracy.

The extended detection period of hair follicle tests provides a significant advantage over other methods in South Canal, OH. With the ability to track drug use over months rather than days or weeks, this method delivers a complete picture of an individual's substance behavior. This long-term insight is critical for employers looking to maintain a drug-free workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In South Canal, OH, the tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests ensures their credibility and reliability. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
