Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle testing for drugs in Wakeman, Ohio. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis, operating testing centers across the nation capable of conducting such tests. Ideally, you should have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head, though body hair is also usually acceptable. Hair samples can undergo testing for drugs, alcohol (ETG), or other tailored options.

Recently, hair follicle tests have become a more common choice for drug testing. Many employers, legal systems, and substance abuse experts often opt for hair drug testing over traditional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and those on probation typically employ hair follicle testing. This type of testing offers a long detection window for drug use, up to 90 days, is collected under direct observation, and is highly resistant to tampering. However, urine tests remain the optimal choice for detecting recent drug use within a 5-day window.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations are now recognised as a significant method for unveiling drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a prolonged record of substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When acquired near the scalp, hair offers up to nearly a 3-month detection span for alcohol and other substances. Hair is effortless to gather, somewhat resistant to tampering, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (roughly the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is lacking, a comparable batch of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, we solely refer to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (face, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four principal stages in the laboratory handling of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial treatment of a sample into a lab’s system. This procedure ensures that the sample was efficiently sealed and dispatched, a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) is given, and any supplementary data input not provided by an automated chain of custody process is completed.

Screening encompasses a primary expedited assessment for substance abuse. While Screening is an economical method to dismiss drug use on most samples, a screen yielding positive must be confirmed to hold in court. Samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require an additional confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during the Screening, further hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in other techniques (e.g., urine or saliva), which is why hair drug screening stands as the most challenging method to perform.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is implemented through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The full lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and certification to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Elongated detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify substance use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to falsify: It is exceedingly hard to cheat a hair drug test, making the findings more reliable.
  • Yields historical insights: It can outline a timeline of substance use over a duration, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Impossible to detect recent use: It takes close to 5-7 days for substances to be observable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Disparities in outcomes: Elements like hair color and individual variances in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While commonly called "hair follicle tests", the test analyzes the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over urine tests in Wakeman, OH? Superior in detection accuracy, hair testing leads the pack. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
