Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug evaluations in Albert, Oklahoma. For individuals requiring hair drug or alcohol screening, we excel in hair testing with facilities across all U.S. cities to conduct hair evaluations. Typically, a sample of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is necessary. These tests can examine substances, alcohol/ETG, or can be customized further.

The popularity of using hair follicle drug testing has increased over the past few years. Employers, legal systems, and addiction experts often opt for this method over traditional urine testing. Hair tests are favored by organizations with strict anti-drug policies, legal entities, and those monitoring individuals on probation. Their advantage lies in detecting long-term substance use, spanning up to 90 days, using observed collection, making deception nearly impossible. Yet, urine tests remain superior for recent drug use detection within five days.

What it is, How it works

An effective method for detecting drug and alcohol use is hair testing, which is valued for its ability to provide a comprehensive history. Biomarkers of alcohol and other drugs are encased in hair fiber during its growth. When clipped near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use patterns within roughly a 3-month period. Hair is easy to gather, not easily tampered with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch section with about 200 hairs (equivalent to the circumference of a #2 pencil) cut nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, the preferred quantity for analysis and verification. For EtG, test enhancements, or more than 10-panel screenings, 150mg of hair is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale is recommended for precise measurement. In the absence of scalp hair, a similar quantity of body hair is permissible. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair only; body hair pertains to all other varieties—like facial or underarm hair.

Process Overview

The procedure for laboratory processing of a drug testing result consists of four crucial steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning, the first step, is where a sample is formally logged into the laboratory system. This step ensures the sample is correctly sealed and transported, assigns a unique Laboratory Accession Number (LAN), and completes any outstanding data input not handled by an electronic chain of custody protocol.

The Screening phase performs a swift examination for the presence of drugs. While this is a cost-effective approach for dismissing drug use across most samples, any sample yielding a positive result during Screening must be verified for courtroom validity. Samples flagged as presumptively positive during Screening necessitate further confirmation.

For any sample deemed presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is sourced from the original collection for the Extraction process. At this stage, drug compounds are separated from hair at much lower concentrations than found in other testing methodologies (e.g., urine or saliva). This complex requirement makes hair drug testing particularly challenging.

Positive screening results undergo Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples presumed positive are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. The detailed laboratory process from Accessioning through Confirmation adheres to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair recognition and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests cover drug usage over up to a 90-day timeframe, superior to the shorter scope of urine tests.
  • Hard to spoof: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, allowing for more reliable outcomes.
  • Tracks historical usage: It reveals ongoing patterns of drug use instead of just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for substances to manifest in the hair.
  • Expense: Hair testing usually incurs higher costs than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and personal hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Even though termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure actually examines the strands of hair and not the scalp-situated hair follicle

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Albert, OK In Albert, Oklahoma, hair follicle testing proves superior to urine testing due to its extended drug detection capabilities. While traditional urine tests often detect only recent drug use, hair testing provides a 90-day window, offering a thorough review of a candidate's drug history. Employers can rely on its consistent accuracy and reliability, making it their go-to option for efficient screening.

Hair testing setups in Albert are equipped to handle various testing requirements, and their ability to detect even minimal substance traces makes them invaluable. Unlike urine tests, hair tests eliminate the chances of sample tampering or cheating, solidifying their position as the preferred choice among professionals aiming for optimal safety and compliance in the workplace.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Albert, OK One of the noteworthy advantages of hair follicle testing in Albert, OK, is its ability to trace drug use over an extensive period, up to 90 days. This extended detection window allows employers to gain deeper insights into an individual's substance use, offering a comprehensive overview of their history. Companies can make better hiring decisions by understanding potential risks associated with drug use.

Employers in Albert appreciate this longer detection period as it ensures a thorough evaluation of an individual's preparedness to adhere to workplace policies. This method offers a reliable means to monitor ongoing compliance, providing a complete picture rather than snapshots of drug use, unlike traditional methods with shorter detection windows.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
