Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Calvin, Oklahoma. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing and has centers nationwide, including every city, to conduct a hair test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required for testing. Hair tests can assess for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Recently, methods for conducting drug tests have increasingly featured hair follicle drug tests. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse experts often prefer hair drug tests over standard urine tests. These tests are chosen by employers with no-tolerance drug use policies, courts, and those on probation. The main advantage is an extended detection window of up to 90 days, taken in an observed process, making it nearly impossible to manipulate. However, for detecting drug use within the last five days, urine tests are more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is regarded as a significant resource for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a protracted timeline of alcohol and other drugs by capturing biomarkers within the strands of the developing hair. Collected near the scalp, it offers up to a roughly 3-month period for detecting alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and easily shippable.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of about 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the specimen is advised. It's suggested to use a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. Should scalp hair not be available, an equivalent amount of body hair should be gathered. "Head hair" refers exclusively to scalp hair, whereas "body hair" encompasses all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four principal stages in laboratory handling of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial processing phase where a sample is integrated into a laboratory system. This step ensures the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplemental data entry not captured by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening includes a preliminary examination to check for drug abuse. While Screening is cost-efficient for ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive screening must be confirmed for court admissibility. Presumptively positive samples in Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

If Screening results are presumptively positive, additional hair is drawn from the original specimen for Extraction. Here, drugs are separated from hair at a much lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), establishing hair drug screening as the most complex methodology.

Positive results from Screening receive Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples presumptively positive undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug analyses can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine testing with shorter detection spans.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insights: It can trace a pattern of drug use over a duration, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inadmissible for recent consumption: Drugs require approximately 5-7 days to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally incurs higher costs compared to other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the levels of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Though commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle tests to urine tests in Calvin, OK, the former demonstrates superior detection capabilities. Able to identify a longer history of substance use, these tests outshine the traditional urine tests, which are limited to brief detection periods.

Hair follicle testing’s thoroughness ensures employers and legal entities gain a more comprehensive understanding of an individual’s substance use. This hard-to-fabricate method prevents cheating, offering a reliable alternative to urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

In Calvin, OK, hair follicle testing offers an extensive detection window, covering up to 90 days of substance use. This feature provides employers with a significant advantage, enabling them to thoroughly evaluate an applicant’s or employee’s history.

Such broad detection ensures companies can make well-informed decisions, maintaining a safe and drug-free workplace. By offering a comprehensive overview, hair follicle tests stand as a valuable tool in ongoing employee evaluation and support.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Calvin, OK, hair follicle tests present a tamper-resistant method for drug testing that significantly minimizes risks of sample adulteration. This reliability ensures that results obtained are both dependable and legally sound.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
